The following Monday began like any other.

Olivia arrived at work a few minutes before eight, balancing a cup of coffee and a folder of reports as she stepped into the elevator. The weekend gala was still fresh in her mind. She and Ryan had spent most of Sunday relaxing at home, watching old movies and ordering takeout.

It had been one of those simple weekends she loved.

The kind that reminded her why she had fallen in love with him in the first place.

As the elevator doors opened, Olivia walked toward her office, greeting coworkers along the way.

"Morning, Olivia."

"Good morning."

"How was your weekend?"

"Busy," she replied with a smile. "But good."

She had barely settled into her chair when her phone buzzed.

A text message.

She glanced down at the screen.

The moment she saw the sender's name, her eyes widened.

Chloe Anderson.

For a second, Olivia simply stared.

She wasn't imagining it.

The message was real.

After nearly six years of silence, Chloe Anderson had finally reached out.

A thousand memories rushed through Olivia's mind.

Sleepovers,School dances and Sharing secrets late at night.

The two of them laughing until their stomachs hurt.

Growing up, they had been inseparable.

Everyone used to joke that they were sisters rather than friends.

Then life happened.

College.

Jobs.

Different cities.

Different priorities.

The friendship slowly faded.

Not because they argued.

Not because they stopped caring.

They had simply drifted apart.

Olivia quickly opened the message.

Olivia! I know it's been forever. Please don't be mad. I'm moving back to Miami this week. I'd love to see you.

A smile immediately spread across Olivia's face.

Without thinking, she called her.

The phone rang twice.

Then a familiar voice answered.

"Olivia?"

Olivia laughed.

"Chloe?"

"Oh my God."

The two women began talking at once.

Neither could stop smiling.

For the next twenty minutes, they caught up on years of missed conversations.

By the time the call ended, Olivia felt happier than she had in weeks.

One of her oldest friends was coming home.

That evening, Olivia practically ran through the front door.

"Ryan!"

Her voice echoed through the apartment.

Ryan looked up from the kitchen.

"Well, somebody's excited."

Olivia dropped her purse onto the couch.

"You'll never guess who called me."

Ryan pretended to think.

"The president?"

"No."

"Emma?"

"No."

"The pizza delivery guy?"

Olivia laughed.

"Chloe."

Ryan frowned slightly.

"Chloe?"

"My childhood best friend."

Understanding crossed his face.

"Oh."

"She's moving back to Miami."

Ryan smiled.

"That's great."

"It is."

Olivia practically bounced onto the couch.

"I haven't seen her in years."

Ryan chuckled.

"I can tell."

For the rest of the evening, Olivia talked about Chloe.

The adventures they shared as teenagers.

The trouble they got into.

The dreams they once had.

Ryan listened patiently.

Even though he'd never met Chloe, he found himself smiling at the way Olivia's face lit up whenever she spoke about her.

It had been a long time since he'd seen her this excited.

Three days later, Olivia arrived at a small café overlooking the water.

She checked her phone.

Her heart raced with anticipation.

Then a familiar voice suddenly called her name.

"Olivia!"

She turned.

And immediately recognized her.

"Chloe!"

The women rushed toward each other and embraced tightly.

For a moment neither spoke.

They simply laughed.

The years seemed to disappear instantly.

When they finally pulled apart, Olivia looked her friend over.

Chloe had changed.

The shy girl Olivia remembered was gone.

In her place stood a confident woman with perfectly styled blonde hair and expensive clothes.

Yet her smile remained the same.

"It's really you," Olivia said.

Chloe laughed.

"It's really me."

The next two hours flew by.

They talked about everything.

The years apart, their careers, families,Old classmates,Failed relationships and Future plans.

At one point Chloe leaned back in her chair and smiled.

"You look happy."

Olivia's cheeks warmed slightly.

"I am."

"Tell me about him."

Ryan.

The smile on Olivia's face widened immediately.

Chloe noticed.

And for a brief moment, something flickered in her eyes.

Gone almost as quickly as it appeared.

Olivia never saw it.

"He treats me well," Olivia said softly.

"That's rare."

"I know."

Chloe smiled.

"You deserve it."

Olivia reached across the table and squeezed her hand.

"I missed you."

For the first time since arriving in Miami, Chloe looked genuinely emotional.

"I missed you too."

And in that moment, she meant it.

A week later, Olivia invited Chloe to dinner.

It felt natural.

The way things used to be.

Old friends reconnecting.

As Chloe stood outside Olivia's apartment that evening, she took a deep breath.

She wasn't nervous often.

But tonight felt different.

The door opened.

Olivia immediately pulled her into a hug.

"You made it."

"I said I would."

Then Chloe stepped inside.

And saw him.

Ryan Walker.

For a brief moment, time seemed to slow.

Ryan stood from the dining table.

Chloe felt her breath catch.

Olivia had shown her photographs.

But photographs hadn't done him justice.

Ryan offered a polite smile.

"You must be Chloe."

Chloe quickly recovered.

"And you must be Ryan."

Their hands met.

A simple handshake.

Yet something lingered for a second longer than it should have.

Neither of them noticed.

At least not consciously.

Olivia certainly didn't.

She was too busy smiling.

Too busy enjoying the moment.

The evening passed pleasantly.

The conversation flowed easily.

Ryan made everyone laugh.

Chloe fit naturally into their lives.

By the end of the night, Olivia couldn't have been happier.

Her husband and her best friend got along perfectly.

What more could she ask for?

As Chloe prepared to leave, Olivia hugged her again.

"We should do this more often."

"I'd like that," Chloe replied.

Ryan smiled politely.

"You're welcome anytime."

Chloe looked at him.

Just briefly.

Then she smiled.

"Thank you."

Later that night, after Chloe left, Olivia curled up beside Ryan on the couch.

"See?" she said happily.

"What?"

"You liked her."

Ryan shrugged.

"She's nice."

Olivia grinned.

"I knew it."

Ryan laughed softly and kissed her forehead.

Within minutes, the conversation was forgotten.

The evening became another pleasant memory.

But elsewhere, Chloe sat alone in her apartment, staring out at the city lights.

Her thoughts drifted back to dinner.

Back to Ryan.

Back to the life Olivia had built.

The beautiful marriage.

The happy home.

The love she could see every time they looked at each other.

Something uncomfortable stirred inside her chest.

A feeling she couldn't quite name.

At least not yet.

It wasn't love.

It wasn't jealousy.

Not fully.

But it was the beginning of something dangerous.

And although none of them knew it, the first crack had just appeared in the foundation of Olivia's perfect life.

The storm was still far away.

But it was coming.

For the first year of marriage, Olivia sometimes woke up in the middle of the night just to make sure it was all real. She would lie awake beside Ryan and listen to the steady sound of his breathing. Sometimes one of his arms would be draped across her waist. Other times he would be sprawled across half the bed, completely unaware that he was taking up far more space than necessary. Every time it made her smile. Their apartment wasn't fancy. It wasn't one of the luxury homes overlooking the ocean. It wasn't the kind of place people showed off on social media. But it was theirs. And somehow that made it perfect. One Saturday morning, Olivia walked into the kitchen and found Ryan standing in front of the stove. Smoke was filled the room. A pan sat forgotten on the burner. Something black and unrecognizable was slowly turning into charcoal. Olivia stopped in the doorway. "Ryan." Her husband turned. A guilty expression immediately appeared on his face. "G

The ocean sparkled beneath the afternoon sun as Olivia stood barefoot in the sand, her wedding dress swaying gently in the breeze. She still couldn't believe this day had finally arrived. For most of her life, she had watched other women live moments like this. She had sat in church pews and banquet halls, smiling as friends walked down aisles toward men who adored them. She had clapped at engagement parties, posed for wedding photographs and caught bouquets she secretly hoped would bring her luck. Yet deep down, there had always been a small part of her that wondered if her turn would ever come. Now it had. And somehow it still felt unreal. "Stop crying." Emma appeared beside her holding a tissue. Olivia laughed through her tears. "I'm not crying." "You absolutely are." Emma gently wiped her sister's cheek. "Look at you." Olivia glanced down at her dress. Months earlier she had convinced herself that nothing would look good on her. Now, standing in front of the mirror
