The Morning Routine

last update publish date: 2026-06-08 10:38:42

Rose stretched her arms and pulled her blanket closer to her neck. She shifted to her side and, while keeping her eyes closed, yawned loudly. She knew she woke up even before her alarm could go off. She was too excited to go back to sleep. All night, she kept dreaming about Piers.

She had finally said yes to him after being asked again and again. She had vowed to herself that only after her business succeeded would she get married. And that day had finally arrived. When she met with the handsome, charming Piers Austin in college, she never even dreamed that he would become her boyfriend and love her so immensely. All her life, she was just loved by her father, and then that poor man fell into a coma. Her stepmother, Ursa Hewitt, raised her only because all of the people associated with the Woolridge family knew about her.

She knew that Ursa didn’t like her, but she had no choice but to raise her along with her own daughter, Vanessa Hewitt Woolridge. Rose never cared about luxuries or wanted to sleep on a bed made of money. She just wanted to make her father proud, and the only way she could think of was developing her own business brand.

She never knew her mother, and that always made her sad. She only had one photograph of her mother, Willette Woolridge. She died when Rose was little. The only memory she had of her mother was a vision she always had – her mother in the kitchen while Rose was sitting on the kitchen island, mixing the cookie dough with her hands, spilling the chocolate chips everywhere. She loved that scene, as in that scene both her mother and she kept laughing loudly.

That’s why, after graduating with a business degree, she went for culinary arts. There she met with her best friend, Seth Quinn. The handsome, sassy man changed his boyfriend like he was changing sheets. Rose’s head would hurt while keeping the names of his boyfriend’s straight. But all through her stepmother’s subtle hate and bullying, through her fights with Piers, Seth was the only one who kept her sane.

They both started in a small diner, and after they had secured a small amount of money, they opened a food truck. Her pastries, her doughnuts, her cakes slowly became legendary. People from all over Thornspire would come to just have a taste of her sweets. It had been just a year since Seth and Rose pooled their money, got a small loan from the bank and opened their full-fledged bakery ‘Roseth’.

She sighed loudly and smiled when she recalled their fight about which name they should choose for the bakery. Seth wanted something rocking like ‘Rizz’ or ‘Mocha’. But Rose wanted something personal. When she suggested ‘Roseth’ and explained to him that the name was the result of the amalgamation of their names, for the first time she saw tears in Seth’s eyes.

In a week, Rose’s life was going to change. Piers had booked a beautiful chapel for their marriage. She would finally become Rose Woolridge Austin. She hid her face with her blanket and kicked up her feet with excitement. She pressed her lips tightly, thinking about how good her first night was going to be. She had promised Piers that she was saving herself for him till their wedding day. She bit her lips, thinking about how Piers was going to kiss her all over her naked body.

She squealed loudly and turned on her stomach to hide her face in her pillow. She lifted her face when her alarm started to blare. She finally jumped out of her bed and shouted loudly, “Yes!!!” and threw her arms in the air.

With a huge smile on her face, she walked towards the bathroom when her door was kicked open, and she screamed in fear.

“What the hell is wrong with you? I am live-streaming my morning routine, and you are shouting and destroying everything,” snapped Vanessa. She was covered in make-up, had waves in her hair, yet was dressed in silk pyjamas. Rose shook her head in disbelief. She knew Vanessa was faking for her followers.

“Ugh!” groaned Rose, opened the bathroom and disappeared without replying to Vanessa.

“Mom! She destroyed my live stream. Ahhh!!!” screamed Vanessa loudly and stomped her foot on the ground. When no one replied to her or even came to talk to her, Vanessa slapped a vase kept on Rose’s dresser and walked away fuming in anger.

Rose heard the shattering sound and rolled her eyes. She had seen all of Vanessa’s tantrums all her life. This was nothing new. She was the pampered, spoiled brat. No one was ever going to correct her behaviours, and Rose had learned to ignore her for her own peace of mind.

Rose came out of the bathroom in a towel and sighed when she saw the shattered porcelain. She bent down and picked up every piece and dumped everything in the dustbin placed in a corner. She made sure to thank her servants for cleaning up everything in her absence.

She went to her closet and chose a pale white shirt with a bow-detailed collar and paired it with a long, flowy red skirt. After getting ready, she grabbed her mask, her favourite, green-coloured headphones, and her all-time loyal brown handbag.

She came out of her room and locked her door behind herself. It was still early in the morning, and she knew that no business would be open. But she wanted to run to her bakery as she wanted to start baking her wedding cake. She had an idea in her mind, and she wanted to surprise Piers.

Nothing could make her smile fade, but the very next second, her smile faded. She was standing before the key holder, trying to figure out which car to take. She didn’t want to walk in that neighbourhood this early in the morning. Recently, a lot of people were roaming around waving their guns. The police have been trying to curb the gang activity, but have not been that successful.

The voice of her stepmother made her lose her smile. “You are not taking any cars today,” announced Ursa.

“But…” protested Rose.

Ursa stopped her with a show of her hand. “I need to send the cars for maintenance. You can walk or take a bus! Leave!” snapped Ursa.

Rose clenched her jaw, and without replying back, she opened the main door and walked out.

Emerson sighed after hearing Kingsley’s words. He knew that he was not only finding Rose for himself but also for his whole family. Everyone had waited for centuries to find that girl. Not only to give her the life she deserved, but also to keep her safe. A danger was looming over her head. An old enemy was hiding in the shadows to get to her. And he was not going to stop.“I wish that you find your Rose, King! I really wish!” said Emerson.“Yeah, let’s hope this time we get the good news!” Kingsley sighed too. He finally closed his eyes and decided to rest for a few hours. The whole hospital was crawling with Dia Lucrii. He knew he would be safe, but his dream of sleeping was crushed by the arrival of his doctor, Ernesta Cannon.“Mr Aguilar! Heard you regained consciousness and then went for a walk. Is that right?” said Ernesta and walked near Kingsley as if she was simply gliding on the floor. The ugly brown scrubs could not diminish her beauty. Her shoulder-length burgundy hair was

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Best Friend

Kingsley first gritted his teeth in anger. He didn’t like Emerson noticing every tiny thing about him. But that was obvious. They had been friends since they were teenagers and were trained together to lead Dia Lucrii. One became the boss, and the other became his right hand. They were like two peas in a pod. They were best friends, best fighters, best marksmen and did everything together. He also hated the fact that a girl was affecting him to this extent. All his life, his heart had been searching for Rose; his heart belonged to Rose. And he hated the fact that some unknown girl was making him jealous and angry. Only his Rose could do that to him. No one else could. He sighed loudly and, without looking at Emerson, replied, “I don’t know. Trust me, I, too, hate the fact that I got jealous. I didn’t like it when he talked about you falling for her. Even if she is not my Rose, I don’t want anyone falling for her.”“What? Why?” asked Emerson.“I don’t want an innocent girl to get roped

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Sorry Guard

Kingsley didn’t know why he felt jealous after hearing what Shannon just said. He didn’t know who Rose was or if she even was his Rose. He lost his Rose when she was merely four years old. She was a cute little kid who always kept fighting with him. She could not even pronounce his name correctly.Whenever they would meet, they would always fight. And when they would be separated, they would cry, saying that they missed each other. As Rose was younger than him, he used to give in to every one of her demands. She would sit on his chest, grab his hair and yank on it, and he would just end up laughing at her. Because after hurting him, she herself would end up crying. And the gold in her eyes would become more prominent. He still remembered her chubby cheeks, her bob haircut, her tiny fingers, her wails, her giggles, her little body, her little feet. And now that sweet girl must have grown. He had been searching for her for years. When he was a kid, Egbert used to look for her. In the mea

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Powerful Family

Emerson was looking at Kingsley while he was busy talking to Deep. He informed Kingsley about everything his team had already done. They all kept walking behind Shannon to the security room. As it was situated in a quiet corner of the basement level 1, they had to get inside an elevator.“So, everything in that bakery is fine now?” asked Kinsgley.“Yes!” sighed Kingsley.Emerson then took out his phone and dialled Liliana’s number. Within seconds, she picked up the phone.“Oh, so you remember me now?” snapped Liliana. She didn’t wait for any greetings.“I always remember you, Lili darling!” mocked Emerson.“You son of a bitch! You always remember me when you have some work. What is it this time?” snapped Liliana, making Emerson laugh.Kingsley jerked the phone away from Emerson and spoke, “Liliana!” She immediately stiffened after hearing his authoritative voice. He was not rude; he was just nonchalant.“Boss!” said Liliana. Everyone could hear her standing straight with one word.“I h

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Intelligent Nurse

Kingsley stopped at the door and looked around. There was no one in the room. Deep had gone to search the hospital for Rose. Kingsley moved ahead and stopped near the hospital bed. The blanket was half lying on the floor. The IV injection was dripping liquid drop by drop on the floor. He moved one step more, and his feet stumbled on nude-coloured heels. He looked at the heels with a deep sigh. Suddenly, he noticed the shoe size. “That girl was tall, so why are her heels so small in size?” he thought.“Oh no! Where is she? Did she yank her IV out?” shouted the nurse and ran to the bedside.“When you last saw her, was she alright?” asked Kingsley.“Yeah, I told you she was sleeping it off. But…” hesitated the nurse.“But what?” Kingsley’s heart was ready to jump out of his chest.“When we came here to check on her, we noticed a few drops of blood in her IV tube,” replied the nurse.“Nothing else! No one was around her? no one was lingering outside her room?” asked Emerson.“No! Nothing e

“Find her! Find her, Emer! Now!” shouted Kingsley. Emerson saw the panic in Kingsley’s eyes and gulped with fear. He had never seen Kingsley showing such emotions before that, too, for a strange woman. Seeing his fear now, Emerson was afraid too. What if Darcy had come back to finish the job? But why that woman, why would he try to hurt that woman, she didn’t see him, she just saw his goons. And if Darcy wanted to kill someone, why not Kingsley? But he knew the answer. Kingsley was under a lot of protection. No one could get to him, but to capture that woman, that was a fairly easy job. Emerson almost ran to the door when he saw that Kingsley was coming up right behind him.“What are you doing?” snapped Emerson.“I am coming with you!” shouted Kingsley. The sweat was dripping from his forehead.“Have you lost your mind? Don’t you see all these IVs attached to you?” Emerson started pushing Kingsley back into the room. “Do you have any idea how much blood you have lost? If not for that
