CHAPTER 11

GIVEON

I observed Evans, wondering if he had a death wish or something, coming here to speak such nonsense.

But then again it was more important for me to get the information I needed than to let my emotions get the better of me.

" And why is that?"

He frowned. "You don't need to know. I am sure she is going around trying to pitch herself. She said she was going to come to you and prove me wrong after I dared her ...kinda ...dared her."

He pushed his table closer." So you have to agree to this. Our team is on the line. If this goes awry it could affect me yunno. Besides I know you don't care about her."

" Who told you I don't?" I raised a brow at him.

His eyes widened and his mouth dropped, then shut back. " You are joking right? There's absolutely no way you are interested in Dahlia. You are a fuck boy. A play boy. That is always who you have been."

" You aren't wrong. But that was just some form of escapism. The one person I wanted ...belonged to someone else." I narrowed my eyes." So I kept counting the days till I would have her for myself."

Anger raged on Evans face, his hands clenched " You cocksucker. What did you do to my girl?"

" I got to feel how wet she could get for me. My fingers caressed her soaked pussy, back in my apartment. And we would have had sex if not for ...."

Evans pushed the glass off the table, and it crashed to the floor, shattering into fragments.

The noises in the bar stopped.

Everyone turned to see what was going on, curiosity and surprise on their faces.

Evans stood, kicking his chair to the ground as he rushed me and grabbed my collar.

I could have handled him here and now if I wanted to.

But two things were involved.

One, my punishment would probably be increased tomorrow.

And two, I would miss the chance to ensure I prevented Evans from messing with Dahlia.

If he wanted to sabotage her career, then I had to do something about it.

And that included making sure Dahlia HAD A JOB.

But that was the thing. Dahlia was acting foolishly, and being stubborn.

Dahlia didn't want no job with me.

But wasn't that the exciting thing about the thrill of the chase?

It was my mission now to ensure she had one and I would do what I could to make it so even though she was being unreasonably emotional and naive about what was going on.

The bar man came around. "Gentlemen, I am afraid you'd have to leave my bar. You have broken the rules."

"Are you blind?" I asked. " Didn't you see him stand from his chair and assault me just now?"

He cleared his throat. " Sorry about that. Evans you'll have to leave or I am calling the cops. I don't think that would be good for your hockey image."

Evans muttered an inaudible curse and let go of me.

I arranged my collar back into place. "We could still talk about your offer yunno. I'd like to know what plans you have in mind, to make her jobless."

"Like hell I'd tell you," He said

"I could still help you. She has refused to work for me. She doesn't even want to talk to me. So right now we are in the same situation. What I expect from you isn't emotion, but sense, and logic. If making her work for no one else will help my cause, then why won't I do it?"

Evans seemed to muse over my words. "And how am I sure you aren't trying to make her be your specialist?"

"I am more interested in making her my woman. Besides I'm already with the team's pr department."

"Leave, Evans. You can tender an apology, and a promise letter to desist from such behaviors if you wish to come back to the bar."

Evans scoffed. " To this measly bar you mean."

"Ouch," I said.

"Okay, that's two apology letters, and two promise letters." said the bar man.

Evans gave him the middle finger and sauntered away.

EVANS

When I stepped out of the bar, I spotted Lily hanging around.

"What are you doing here?"

"I saw you walk in with the coach. I could ask you the same thing." She fought back, mistrust all over her face.

"My business is none of your concern Lily." I started walking forward and she followed.

"Oh now it isn't right? After everything you told me ... everything you promised. You were so sure about me. About us. Now Dahlia catches us and you've suddenly lost it?"

I paused, trying to fight back the anger that had been boiling inside me.

Taking a deep breath and unclenching my fists, I turned and walked to her.

"You two fuck me over and now you are here to rub it in my face?" " We need to talk Dahlia," Evans said. I wasn't with words to say sincerely, staring at the both of them and the audacity they had coming here.I stepped out the way. "Lily go in. You and I are having a separate chat." She silently went in and I shut the door. The fact was that I couldn't leave her out there in the cold night. She had been staying with me and the only other sensible option was to go back to aunt and that would have to mean sending her back out of Nevada. Lily was here because of me. I had helped her get a job, and also housed her. I was her cousin as well as her guardian in a way, even though I was just 6 years older than her. Aunt Osha had raised me ever since my parents passed away when i was like little. I didn't know

Are you going to become my pr personnel? Tell me, do you have the qualifications? I am here trying to salvage my career and all you can think of is your emotions!" I shot back. Lily sniffed, tears forming in her eyes. " What did I do so wrong that you are acting this way to me?"I shook my head. She wasn't even getting it." I don't have time to deal with this right now. We will have to talk later."The door to the pub opened and Giveon stepped out. He walked towards us. "Isn't this interesting? Lily I would think that you have gotten a little bit of remorse considering how much you hurt your cousin, but here you are."He stopped a distance beside us and crossed his arms. "You don't get to judge her. " I snapped back. "You have been a fuck boy all your life. I am sure whatever this is you're trying to do with Dahlia

CHAPTER 10Signature style Coach James walked in, his black hair combed backwards, his signature style. His greyish white beards had been shaved short. He had on a loose purple suit over a white top and creamy trousers. But what surprised me most was who walked in with him. Evans was with him, looking smug like a bounty hunter who had found his prey. "Coach?" Giveon said as he neared our table. It was at that moment the expression on his face became clear to me. He wasn't happy. Not one bit. "I don't get why the captain of Red Rocks Strikers would be downing drinks?" " I am not precisely about to get myself drunk cap." Giveon fought back, while Evans took a step back, a smug look on his face that I was so annoyed about and wanted to slap off him. He had done this. Of course. Who else would it be? He had reported Giveon to Coach. What for I had honestly no idea. "You are the captain. If I am going to be lenient on others to drink from time to time, should I also let the capt

CHAPTER NINE DAHLIA My gaze remained longingly at the Negroni the bar man took back as I sipped the orange drink begrudgingly. "You look like someone who just lost a dear puppy." Giveon noted. " You shouldn't have taken my drink away from me." I said, then the bar man came back. " Can I have my Negroni back?" Suddenly I felt cold fingers move my face slowly, till I was staring at hard, menacing blue eyes. "Don't test me." Giveon growled as he narrowed his eyes, then he leaned in, to my ear. "I could kiss you here in front of everyone. Make them all talk and carry the news, and give you the embarrassment you have been running away from. Is that what you want?" I shook my head quite fast. "That wasn't my intention. I ju..just wanted my drink." He carefully let go of me, his fingers brushing lightly against my cheek bones and sending tingly sensations skittering all over my body. "Get her an Americano." Giveon said to the barman who nodded and walked off. I frowned at Gi

CHAPTER EIGHT GIVEONEvans had been a thorn in my flesh for as long as I could remember. He knew I was just captain and couldn't get him out of the team so he maneuvered his way, always pissing me off. Of course he never defaulted on ice or I would have found my opportunity to teach him numerous lessons, so he smartly plotted his mischief. Seeing as he was careless already with his public image, and needed Dahlia to clean up after him, it went to show he didn't really care about anything. Yes hockey was a sport he loved and he did well in it. But his cockiness and inflated sense of self, which by the way was delusional, was his problem. As for Dahlia, Evans would have never really gotten under my skin if not for her. She was the reason my hatred for Evans cooked and simmered. She was the reason I allowed him get to me. As much as I tried to deny it, I always felt like what belonged to me had been taken from me.That did all sorts of things to me. And so I hated Dahlia. I act
