Ten years ago...
Raffy didn't know how long he had been just staring at his reflection in the mirror. What he knew was that it had been too long, that he had to stop now, or else he was going to be late for his flight.
He glanced at his wristwatch. His flight was at three p.m., and it was already twelve noon, which meant he only had three hours to reach the airport.
A deep sigh came out of his mouth. He really needed to leave if he didn't want to be left behind by the plane…
Or maybe that was what he truly wanted—
"No," Raffy said to himself while shaking his head, putting a stop to all the thoughts he was having. He looked at himself in the mirror again, and this time his eyes showed determination. "You've already made your decision, Raffy. You can't back out now."
And so with that, he took one more look at his sullen face in the mirror and fixed his clothes before he finally grabbed his two suitcases and went out of his room.
He initially planned to just leave right away and not look back. But when he passed by his favorite room in the entire penthouse, he couldn't help himself. He stopped and turned his gaze into that room. And before he knew it, he had already gently let go of his suitcases and started making his way towards that room.
He opened the unlocked door of the room as softly and as quietly as he could. He went inside and made his way towards the bed where his favorite person—or who used to be his favorite person—was sleeping; his steps were so light that they had not made even a single noise.
His eyes travelled to the entirety of Andrew's sleeping figure. But his gaze lingered more on Andrew's handsome face. And there goes the familiar and usual beating of his heart again whenever he sees Andrew—the beating that had never failed to remind him how in love he was with the man he used to dislike.
A bitter smile appeared on his face.
Never, not even in his wildest imagination, had he thought he would end up falling in love with Andrew. And yet here he was.
But this has to end now. The love he was feeling for Andrew had to be stopped now, or he might end up getting more hurt than he already had.
He couldn't continue loving someone one-sidedly. He couldn't continue being with someone that does not value him and does not care about him.
And so, in order for him and his heart to not be fully destroyed to the point that it won't be fixable anymore, he had to put an end to everything now and leave, no matter how painful it was.
"This pain will pass. I just have to endure this," he told himself as he brought his gaze back to Andrew's face.
He bit his lower lip. There was this very strong urge inside him to touch Andrew's face for the last time, but he held himself back.
He couldn't do that. Because he knew that once he did, it would only be harder for him to leave. Also, he couldn't risk the chance of waking Andrew up.
Although Andrew could not reciprocate his love, Andrew wouldn't let him go easily either.
For some reason, Andrew was obsessed with him. At first, Raffy thought it was because Andrew was feeling something, maybe not love but close to it, and he hoped that it would turn into something more. But after being with Andrew for long, he finally realized that what he thought was wrong. That's when he finally decided to let go of the last thread of hope that he held on to.
Instead of touching Andrew, Raffy stood and took deep breaths to calm his racing and aching heart and also for him to be able to breathe normally once again.
When his breathing had gone back to normal, he took one last glance that was filled with love and longing at Andrew. Then, he finally turned around and got out of the room, leaving Andrew pieces of his heart that he knew he could never take back.
The light filtering through the curtains woke Andrew up from his sleep.A groan immediately escaped his lips the moment he opened his eyes."Fuck..."His head pounded mercilessly; it felt like it was going to split into two.He slowly pushed himself upright and pressed the heel of his palm against his forehead, hoping the throbbing would lessen. It didn't.This was what he got after drinking so much last night. He clicked his tongue. He should have listened to Sally. He should have limited his drinks. And more importantly, he should not have allowed himself to dwell on Raffy. But how could he not?The anger, as well as the disappointment in Raffy's face, was too much; it made his fucking heartache. He hated it. He hated that he failed him.Raffy must have been thinking of him as a liar now. Raffy had already thought that he had not changed after all, that he was still the asshole that he knew from ten years ago, and what happened last night just made it even worse.A soft chuckle pull
"Good morning, neighbor!"Raffy halted from arranging the books on the shelves and sighed deeply upon hearing Andrew's voice. It's been two days since Andrew started living in the building next to his. And even now, he still couldn't believe the audacity that Andrew had to live in the same place as the people he'd been wanting to take the homes of.He also still had no idea what kind of wicked plan the alpha had. But whatever it was, he vowed to never let it succeed.Andrew and his minions would have to kill him first before they could evict him, his son, and his fellow Maplewood citizens."So you're still going to ignore me?" Andrew asked after a few moments. The amusement in his voice was very clear, and it made Raffy's blood boil. How dare the alpha be amused with his dilemma? He hadn't really changed. Andrew was still a jerk and a selfish asshole.'Which is why you should work harder to get over that damn kiss,' he silently chastised himself."Come on, Raffy. Get over it. We're ne
"I don't think this is a good decision," Sally said while roaming her gaze across the room that Andrew had chosen to be his office."Yup. This is the sixth time you've said it. Trust me, I have already memorized those eight words," Andrew replied while sitting on his newly bought office chair and was not even bothering to look at his assistant. His gaze remained on his phone, staring at Raffy's phone number.Sally centered her gaze on the alpha that she had stopped considering her boss at the moment but as her friend. "Good. Then that means I have successfully sent the message of my dislike. So, what are you going to do about it?""About your dislike of my decision?""Yes. Are you going to listen to me? Or will you continue being stubborn?""Neither. I am simply doing what I believe is good for the business.""Is that why you can't take your eyes away from Raffy's phone number and are debating whether you should call him or not? Is that why you specifically chose to buy the building n
It had been three days since Raffy found out about Andrew's company working behind-the-scenes. Three days since he stormed inside the alpha's office, and three days since he stupidly kissed Andrew back.Since that day, the number of his sleepless nights has increased. And it was severely affecting him, his daily life, his business, and his son. There were so many times that he made mistakes at the shop. And there were also a number of incidents where he would suddenly space out, leading to him ignoring customers and also Lance. And the conflicting emotions inside him were making it worse. He was confused; angry—both at himself and at Andrew; and also guilty about the truth that he missed that kiss.It had been ten fucking years, and yet Andrew's kiss and touch still did something to him. And he wanted to hit himself, or better yet, bash his head into the wall, for that.He moved on. So why the hell did he like it? Why the fuck did it make his heart beat fast? Why had the kiss and the
"Can I speak with you as your friend? Not as your assistant?" Navid halted what he was doing to look at Sally with a bored expression on his face. "You only thought about asking permission now?" Sally shrugged. "So, may I?" Navid sighed deeply. "Go on. Tell me what kind of nosy thoughts you are having again this time." "Most CEOs don't relocate themselves for a project." Navid groaned. So that's what she had been itching to tell him this morning. He should have known. Andrew put on a straight face while leaning his back on the backrest of his swivel chair. "Most redevelopment projects don't require this much negotiation," he said. But then Sally quickly retorted, "Or maybe most projects don't involve a certain bookstore owner." Andrew glared at her. But Sally, being brave that she was, just raised her brows. "I'm right, aren't I?" "No, you're not," Andrew responded, then went back to reviewing construction plans that were handed to him. "Oh, come on. I'm not—" "You shoul
The weather was fantastic, perfect even, with the sun being bright and warm. It was the kind of weather that should make people happy with huge smiles on their faces. But that was not what was happening. Instead of a huge smile, a frown was on Lance's face. The young boy looked pissed, worried, and confused, all at the same time. And of course, Raffy immediately took notice of it.Raffy stopped what he was doing to face his son beside him. "What's with that face? Did something happen at school?""Nothing happened," Lance timidly answered."Nothing happened and yet you look like the world is about to collapse. You've been like that since yesterday. So tell me. What is going on?"Lance shook his head, still not looking at him as his eyes remained on the table while absentmindedly flipping the pages of his book. "There's really nothing, Dad.""Lance," Raffy made his voice sound firm, wanting to let his son know that he was not buying his lie and that he wouldn't stop asking until he got
"Do you have everything you need? Your books? Is your phone with you? Is it fully charged? What about your snacks? Lunch? What else do you—""Dad," Lance said, making Raffy stop and look at him. "I’m just going on a field trip, not to war or something. Can you please relax?"Raffy took a deep breat
Despite telling himself so many times that he needed to stop thinking too much about Raffy and instead think of what he should be doing for his project to finally start, Andrew couldn't take his mind off of Raffy. Even after busying himself, the moment he wasn't occupied, even if it was only for
“I will be back, Raffy. And I hope that by the time we see each other again, you will have already made the smartest and best decision. And you already know what that is.”Raffy's hold on his fork had tightened as he kept remembering those words Andrew had said before he left.'Who does he think he
Andrew felt like his world had stopped spinning. It's like time has been paused. He was lost for words, and his gaze zeroed in on the man in front of him—the one he had so many memories about and had tried to bury.“Andrew…” he heard Raffy, looking equally shocked, utter. It had been so long since
