“I Carter Reed, heir of Alpha Thorn Reed of the red moon pack, reject you, luana smith of the crimson pack as my mate”.

His eyes burning with anger and hatred. A loud ear piercing scream escaped my mouth as I scrambled to the floor, legs very weak, almost limp from the pain of his rejection.

My breath seized. Tears poured, almost blinding me as I felt the worst pain on my shoulder bone he marked me.

This day was supposed to be special. The day I exchanged vows with my long love, my boyfriend,Carter. I had gotten to the location of the wedding hoping to start a new life with Carter only to find out that he was getting married to someone else, not just anyone, it was my sister!.

The disgust was evident on his face when he looked up at me. His eyes that I got lost in used to hold so much love. Carter and I have been together for years before he asked me to marry him. He was the son of the alpha of the red moon pack.

He wasn't my mate but I loved him anyway. It was hard to find mates in our world, more like they don't exist so we go for whoever we fall in love with. He had marked me willingly. I thought it was forever, never thought for once he would reject our bond someday like he never loved me.

I shivered, my lips trembling “What's my offense? I asked looking at his cold face ”why cause me so much pain?.

He clenched his fists, anger and rage visible in his once loving eyes, “you whore! You betrayed me, you're a murderer, you dare not call me a betrayal! Everything has been falling apart ever since you came into my world!.

His words were like a stab to my heart.

My mum died while giving birth to me. So I was labelled bad luck, a murderer, bad things seemed to happen in my pack upon my presence. Even though I was just a child, they didn't mind. Instead they threw me out and disowned me, no one spared me , no one .

A touch from behind brought me out of my thoughts. It was Maria, my foster mother, she took care of me when everyone left me. She made sure I lacked nothing down to my education through a little pharmacy she managed. I have gained enough ideas and insight about medicine and herbal drugs by helping run and take care of the pharmacy.

“Luana” she called softly, let it slide, you will be seen as the bad one if you try to stop them. She cared, unlike the others.

“A murderer?” Thought you were different from the others! You claimed to love me, you said nothing could ever fade your love for me, what changed?” I asked, tears blurring my view.

“Can't you see luana! My life has been a mess ever since I met you, everyone despises me now. It won't be possible for me to become the next alpha if I get married to you. You're wolfless!”

The crowd gasped in shock as I slapped him.

“I can't believe you said that loud enough for everyone to hear even after knowing the reason that happened.

I had lost my wolf in a tough battle. Everyone hated me including my so-called dad. I had to gain his attention and trust, so I joined the pack soldiers, it wasn't easy but with the help of my wolf and Maria I was able to get hold of a position as a low ranked soldier. At first I didn't figure out dad's reason for letting me join the soldiers but after the battle that almost took my life, I understood that my choice was of benefit to him, he never cared about me anyways.

Everything was working well until that fateful battle that took her away from me.

We were stabbed with 10 spares poisoned with silver, more on her lower belly. Nobody came to our rescue.

“Laura! No! Please stay with me” I begged

“Stay alive”. Those were her last words to me before she died. I have been living with guilt ever since then.

She died because of me! She could have survived but she chose to save me with her last breath.

I survived and lived because of her but then the loneliness I felt was out of this world.

“If you would excuse Luana, she is not in the right state of mind now” my sister Michelle announced. This is such a happy day for me and my family and I want everyone to be happy with us too and not sad.

“Wow, she's such an angel, so kind and considerate” I can't believe they're sisters.

“Everyone cheer for our soon to be bride and Luna, Michelle! The crowd cheered like she was some kind of celebrity.

Maria shook her head “if only they knew the kind of person she was behind closed doors, if only they knew how wicked and heartless she was to her sister whenever they crossed part.

The wedding commenced, the rituals were performed, I watched as the man I once loved exchanged vows with my sister, smiles beaming on their faces as they swapped rings. My heart ached , “will I ever have such a fate?”

Dad came up to the wedding floor and blessed the couple as required. Planting a peck on Michelle's face then hugged her afterwards. He never cared about me in such a manner, “would he ever care ?”

Maria held me “I'm sorry this is happening to you my daughter, if I knew things would turn out this way I wouldn't have brought you here. I never knew their hatred could go this far” she said, looking at me with concern.

“I have ensured a lot for so long, I don't think I can bear it anymore”

I stared at Carter. He was smiling at the camera man, no remorse.

“Let's go home Maria; I can't stand this anymore” I need something to calm me down, I need rest. She gave a quiet nod.

“Let's go,” she said. A few steps out of the door Ryan blocked our way.

“Your dad demands your presence in his study,” he said.

Kyle's brows knit together, irritation flickering across his face. "I was passing by and figured I'd—" he started. Gina cut him off with a lilting voice. "Oh, just passing by? What a stunning coincidence."Kyle's tone dipped into a warning edge as he shot back, "Don't interrupt me while I'm talking." But Gina stayed unbothered, seemingly untouched by his commanding presence — or maybe simply too stubborn to care, and the latter felt closer to the truth. She rolled her eyes and turned toward me. "I'll leave you two be, Luana. Something tells me he didn't come all this way just to say hi. Isn't that right, brother?"Kyle defended himself. "I was coming back from the office." Gina kept needling him. "Ah, the workaholic alpha, slipping out of his office so early. How fascinating."A smile tugged at my mouth as I watched the two of them trade jabs. It struck me as strange, compared to the rest of the family — they bickered like any ordinary brother and sister."Just leave already," Kyle mu

There was clearly more to Gina than what showed on the surface — a sharpness that matched Kyle's own, maybe even exceeded it."I have no intentions of causing him any harm," I told her firmly. She merely scoffed, unconvinced."Words don't guarantee anything." She spun on her heel and swept out of the store, leaving an uneasy quiet behind her. The Masons, I was learning fast, were not a family that put you at ease.We ended up at one of the mall's cafés. Gina ordered two burgers before turning her attention fully on me. "I can't quite figure you out," she said, leaning in, arms settling on the table as her eyes raked over me.My head tilted before I could stop it, my pulse hammering. "What do you mean?"Like something pinned under a microscope — that's exactly how her stare made me feel, picked apart without mercy."You're brave," she mused, almost casually about it. "But there's an enigma to you." The word hung there, teasing. Her tone shifted, grew more probing. "I picked out outfits

She raised her brows. "You are so strange. Malls are honestly the best places on earth." She turned and made her way toward the security check. Security check? My hand moved instinctively to the pocket of my coat dress, pressing against the spot where I had hidden my antidepressant bottle. If it were discovered during the screening, Gina would find out without a doubt. Hello? Luana, are you even there? Are you coming?Gina waved me over, nodding in the direction of the security line. A cold sweat broke out across my forehead. The mall's security measures were no small thing — officers were methodically checking every person who entered, going through their belongings with careful attention. Was this place so prominent that it called for such rigorous screening? I managed a thin smile and forced my feet to move. We joined the short queue, and it quickly became clear that this mall catered to a rather affluent crowd. My heart knocked against my ribs like a warning as we shuffled closer

"You have to make sure you steal the show." I swallowed hard and gave a reluctant nod. "Oh, alright." She clapped her hands together. "Perfect. Now let's find you something worth wearing."I followed her into her room, and nothing could have prepared me for what lay beyond that door. The space was nothing short of opulent. Soft light pink wallpaper dressed the walls, while a neon pink sign on the left boldly declared Boss Babe to anyone who dared enter. At the heart of the room stood a lavish round bed, buried beneath a cloud of fluffy pillows in varying shades of white and black — a tiny tiger soft toy nestled proudly among them. Overhead, the ceiling stole the breath clean from my lungs, painted to resemble a pink galaxy scattered with tiny, twinkling stars that seemed to float in place. As my eyes roamed the room, Gina swept open a set of double doors, unveiling what could only be described as a fashionista's paradise. Her walk-in closet was a spectacle in itself. The racks, crisp

Our conversation, however, came to an abrupt halt at the sound of an unfamiliar voice."And who exactly is going to take her shopping? You?" The voice belonged to someone leaning against the doorframe, and the moment we both looked up, my breath caught. Of all people — it was Gina. She strolled in as though she owned the place, dragging a chair over and dropping into it across from us. Kyle's jaw tightened visibly. He didn't bother masking his irritation."What are you doing here?"She pierced a chunk of her salad with her fork and answered flatly, "Eating breakfast. Obviously."His eyes narrowed. "I was under the impression you'd joined the breakfast boycott committee."Gina chewed slowly, unbothered. "That's on them. I never agreed to stop having breakfast with everyone." A quiet smile pulled at the corner of my mouth. Honestly, I was glad she had shown up. I'd been carrying a weight of guilt over how Kyle's family seemed to be drifting further from him — and somehow, I felt respons

Money was a crucial factor for my future survival here. It was not only necessary for covering my daily expenses, but also for building a solid financial foundation that could carry me through the uncertainties ahead. I needed a stable source of income — something reliable, something I could count on when everything else around me felt so fragile and unpredictable. The question gnawed at me constantly, threading itself through every waking thought like a needle pulling at loose string. But how could I ensure that? How could someone like me, in a position like mine, carve out any real sense of security in a place that still felt so foreign? My thoughts came to an abrupt halt as I stepped out of my room and found Kyle waiting for me in the hallway. The sight of him standing there, calm and composed, sent a sudden rush of warmth crawling up the back of my neck. Memories of our actions from the previous night flooded my mind in an unstoppable wave, vivid and uninvited, and I struggled des
