LOGINCHAPTER 2 - CASSIEL's RETURN
It sends me tumbling to the ground once more, a ragged breath leaving me as the tears I had been holding back streamed down my face. I glanced up at my assaulter and immediately lowered my face when I saw its Beta Thorn. He doesn’t say a word, just steps over my trembling form to where he’s heading. I get up to my feet, and wipe hurriedly at my tears. I will not let anyone else see me like this. Ignoring the sting in my cheek, I pick up my bucket and continue to my destination. That night after my kitchen duties, I laid cuddled on my cot in the closet turned room downstairs when someone barged into my room. I sit up with a start, my fingers curling around the handle of the knife under my blanket. I relax when I see Liora beaming at me from the doorway. I let out a sigh. “You didn’t have to break my door lock, you know.” She doesn’t acknowledge that, but runs to kneel by my side. “Elaris, he’s back!” My eyes go wide. “Cassiel?” She begins pulling me out of the bed. “Come on!” She pulls me out of my room, into the main house where everyone is rushing out to welcome the Alpha’s son from his return of two years of Alpha training. The pack is gathered outside. Liora goes to stand with their dad while I fall into the Omega’s line. Three black SUVs pull up into the pack field. The door opened, feet clad in sneakers touched the ground. My heart beat got faster as a full form came out. My breath caught as I stared at him. Tried to reconcile this man with the boy that kissed me on the tree branch years ago. He had filled out in places, muscles where lean arms used to be. He grew out his blond hair tying it in a bun. Liora was the first to react, she jumped onto her brother. Arms and legs wrapped around him. Cassiel hugged her back as tightly, his lips stretching into a wide smile. After what felt like forever, she let go for her father. There was only a small smile between father and son. A handshake, followed by small talk that I couldn’t hear. My eyes finally moved to others behind him. Soon to be beta and delta. Cassiel closest friends. Cassiel, his dad and together with his friends begin moving towards the packhouse. He stops and hugs someone from the crowd. When he pulls away, I see it’s Melody. They smile softly at each other and I fist my dress in my hands. He begins moving towards our line and I freeze, my gaze fixed on him. He pauses at my side and his gaze scans my face, stopping at the lingering bruise on my cheek. Hope flares inside me as I search his face for concern. But he only stares at me blankly. Confusion rises in me when he raises an eyebrow. It was then I finally felt the tugging of my dress from the Omega beside me. I looked at her and realized she was bowing, all the other servants were bowing except me and everyone was staring. I bend my back into a low bow and together with the rest of the pack. We all chorused, “Welcome back young Alpha.” When I finally rose, Cassiel was already moving back to the packhouse and I was left staring at his back, my heart and head hurting. *** The Moon bonding night is loud. Loud with the songs of the wolves, from howls to actual singing of our ancient language. Most of the wolves of mating age dance around the borne fire, singing songs, their voice lit with glee and anticipation. Older wolves talk excitedly with each other, drinks in hand. I hold a tray of cookies in hand. Even as a wolf who could possibly find her mate tonight. I’m still meant to serve. My eyes go to the moon, hiding behind the clouds. When the clock strikes twelve midnight, the clouds will move and werewolves will be able to know who their mates are. I look away from the moon, clutching the tray of cookies tightly in my hands. Everything would change if I happen to get a mate. I would be released from my pack duties if he doesn’t happen to be an Omega too which is rare. Liora approaches me from the crowd, dressed in a light blue floral gown, her golden hair glistening in the night. The male wolves eyes follow her, entranced by her beauty. I’m sure most of them are wishing to be mated to her. I touched my unruly brown locks subconsciously. “Hey,” she says when she greets me, she smiles then it drops. My brow furrows. “What’s wrong?” She shrugs and takes a cookie from the tray. “Nothing, just a bit nervous.” She bites into her cookie. I blink. Nervous was not a word you would associate with Liora. “Why?” She rubs her foot on the earth. “What if they don’t like me? My mate I mean.” “Of course, he would! Why wouldn’t he? You are a smart, beautiful and nicest person I know.” She gives me a small smile. “Do you really think so?” “Yeahhh,” I draw awkwardly, using I was the one receiving all the confidence talks. When Liora returns to her group of friends, I go about serving cookies and sweets. I spot Cassiel and his friends in the distance. I spin around, ready to head in the other direction when I heard the beta’s son, Michael call out: “Elaris over here!” he hollers, loud enough that someone without a wolf can hear him so yes, I can't afford to ignore him.CHAPTER 18 - ARE YOU HAPPY WITH HIM ELARIS After leaving Sarah’s cottage, I don't waste time in informing the Lycans of our immediate departure. Luckily there isn't a fuss, as they are all tired of the pack already anyway. I go looking for Liora but meet Cassiel on the way. He raises an eyebrow when he sees me at the Alpha wing. “I came to inform Liora that I would be leaving,” I say. He rubs his eyes. “Liora has traveled.” I feel a twinge of disappointment. “Again?” I had been hoping to see her before I left. “She told you about her travels?” he asks. “She did tell me she has been traveling..” He perks. “She told you where?” I shake my head, intending on the promise I made to Liora. “No.” He eyes me. “You’re hiding something.” I fold my arms over my chest, realize I'm being defensive then drop them. “What makes you think that?” He startles me by taking a quick desperate step toward me, his scent overflooding my senses and I resist the urge to take one back. N
CHAPTER 17- HAD MALRIK KNOWN?ELARIS“Who would I even tell? I won't tell anyone, I promise.” I let go of her shoulders.Liora nods but I can still see her hesitating. For a moment, I think she isn't going to speak until she says, “I met…my mate on the day of the moon ritual.”Happiness washes over me. “Oh wow, that's great news!” I exclaim but her expression is still solemn. My brows furrow. “Isn’t it a good thing? What’s wrong.”She shakes her eyes and casts her eyes downward. “There’s nothing wrong with him. He’s perfect.” A smile takes over her face but it drops. “It’s just that he’s a rogue.”I blink. “Oh.”The Ash mere pack still runs on the old traditions. The council enforces them up till today, it was so surprising that they had accepted that much human technology in the clinic. They don't accept rogues into the pack no matter what. I can see why Liora isn't at rest. Then it hits me. “So that’s why you have been traveling!” She nods.I grimace. “You’ve been traveling into no
CHAPTER 16 - DON'T TELL ANYONE ELARIS My eyes turns to slits. “I’m what?” He doesn't utter another word. I rub my chin. “I could have sworn It was your chest I targeted and not your head.” Cassiel glowers at me. “Very funny.” “Indeed, It’s very funny.” I open the fridge and bring out ingredients and loaves of bread, intent on making a sandwich but Cassiel isn't done talking. “You need proper food, this is why I insisted…” My finger clenches around the packet of bread. “On cooking for me? You’re not with me. Are you trying to get your pack to talk about me or what?” His voice comes out strained, “I’m trying to help you.” Cassiel reaches out for the items in my hands but I move away “I can help myself. You should be asleep Alpha, you have pack duties to run tomorrow. If anyone is supposed to be cooking, isn't it an Omega?” He takes a step closer. “We no longer allow Omegas to stay up late for work, nor do they do other stressful activities.” I blink rapidly. “
CHAPTER 15 - LET ME TAKE CARE OF YOU ELARIS He smiles but it doesn't reach his eyes, “I had a feeling you would say that.” I tip my chin at him. “So, you can go ahead and say the words.” He’s still for a moment then he shakes his head. “I can't right now.” I inhale, trying to calm my racing heart, “Why not?” “My pack needs me right now, Elaris. I can't afford to break the bond right now, it would weaken me. My pack needs me right now, please understand.” “Alright. So what you mean is that you won't break it until your pack recovers from the blight?” He swallows. “I can't.” I wave my hand. “That’s fine. I will give my blood for the pack.” His eyes widens, and he sits straighter. “You will?” I nod. “Yes, but you have to break the bond right after.” There’s silence then, “I will.” “You have to swear it.” “I have no reason to hold onto the bond anymore.” Right, he’s with Melody while I'm with Malrik. My throat tightens, why does this still hurt? “Very well,” I rise from the
CHAPTER 14 - ACCEPT MY REJECTION ELARIS Melody calls a nearby guard. “Get our guests settled in.” When he arrives, he stares up at the Lycans literally and frowns. “Alright Luna.” Together with Melody and Michael, we head for the pack clinic. When we step into it, the pup is already laid on a stretcher and is being rushed somewhere by the pack doctors. “Cover her nose! Cover her nose!” the mother sobs. The nose mask she’s wearing barely muffles it. “Maybe it’s the blight. I don't want her getting infected please.” They open a ward door and she tries to follow them inside but one of the doctors blocks her. “Wait outside, we can't have you in here for the examination.” She stares emptily at them and they close the door behind her. Her eyes remains fixed on the door for what felt like forever before she crumbles to the floor. She pulls her dress up to her mouth to stifle the sound of her cries. “Goddess please, she’s too young. Too young. Don't do this to me, I beg you.” My thr
CHAPTER 13- I WANT TO SEEELARISI mutter, “Cassiel is what’s holding me back.”“Do you actually believe that? I doubt it. You don’t sound like you do.”I lower the cup on the table and slump back into the couch. “So what am I supposed to do?”“When you first came here, you were a complete wreck all because of this Alpha. I wouldn't advise you to get back with him, but Malrik…” she shakes her head. “He isn't the answer either. The way I see it, you are with our High Lycan because you feel you owe it to him.”“It’s not like that,” I say weakly.“Then it’s like what then? Be with Malrik if you love him, but it’s not too late to break off things if you don't. It’s not fair to him, neither is it fair to you.”Soon after, I left Mali’s house and went back to Malrik. After waiting for a long time and no sign of Malrik, I went to find him at the pack house when a knock came on the door.I open it to see it's one of the Lycan warriors, he bows his head a bit. “High Lycan Malrik said I should
CHAPTER 11 - SIBLINGS PAINELARISI stare at him, trying to process what he said. “You want me to go back?”“Yes.” He gestures at his arm. “In the three years I've known you, your Lycan has never had much problem with me. But she does now and we both know, it’s because of the Alpha. With him having
CHAPTER 5 - THE BLIGHT Three years later Cassiel’s pov That sharp pain An Alpha feels when a mind link snaps, when the end of the link connected to pack member goes silent is heart wrenching. In the literal sense. This happens either when a wolf had gone rogue or had lost their life. The latt
CHAPTER 4 - THE LYCAN EMERGES Sharp pain slices through my chest, making me gasp. But without a wolf, I couldn’t experience the full pain of breaking a bond. Caspian falls to his knees, clawing at his chest, blood seeps through his chest down his hands. I take a step towards him then stop. I sta
CHAPTER 3 - I REJECTED HIM I let out a breath and forced myself to relax. When I turn back, there’s a fake smile plastered on my face. Soon enough I’m standing in front of Cassiel, Melody, Michael and our delta’s son; Cody. Michael grins at me. “In the two years that we left, you have already gr
