LOGINCHAPTER 5 - THE BLIGHT
Three years later Cassiel’s pov That sharp pain An Alpha feels when a mind link snaps, when the end of the link connected to pack member goes silent is heart wrenching. In the literal sense. This happens either when a wolf had gone rogue or had lost their life. The latter is the case here. Another sharp pain comes. Another link going silent. Another wolf under my care, gone. My hand tightens around the biro in my hand, my eyes staring blankly at the death reports on my desk. I have failed them. A knock comes on my door. “Come in.” My friend and beta, Michael walks in, his face grim. He slumps into the chair before my desk. “Any news from Cody?” “Not yet,” I reply, a cough coming up to my throat but I force it down. If the pack finds out the blight is also crawling through their Alpha’s system, the whole place will be in chaos. They can't afford to know. Enemies can't either. Michael drags his palm down his face.“It’s been two days. What’s keeping him so long.” I don’t answer that. The blight has been appearing in packs for a year now and months ago, it appeared in my pack. Wolves don’t get chronically ill but this disease has eaten its way through my pack. Killing my pack slowly. It starts with a cough, weak limbs then burning pain everywhere. Then it gets worse until you are coughing out blood and the pain keeps you down. Two days ago, I sent Cody to the witch’s territory. We aren't exactly buddies but desperate times call for desperate measures. I try the mindlink, it finally connects after being able to reach him since he left. “Where are you?” I demand. “Oh well, it’s nice to finally hear from you too,” he replies flatly then adds,“I’m almost at the pack border.” I cut it off and told Michael, “he’s almost at the pack border.” He eagerly rises to his feet.“Let’s go meet him.” I would have said yes but my whole body felt heavy as a log. With both my wolf weakened after Elaris’s rejection and the blight creeping in. I'm barely keeping myself upright. “You go to welcome him and return here,” I say, waving him off. He gives me a look. I couldn’t stop being overly eager to hear a report from Cody since he left and now content on being on my ass instead of rushing to go hear the news at the border. A cough leaves my throat before I could stop it and from the way it forced its way out, anyone can tell ive been holding it back. Michael brows shoot up to his hairline. “Are you okay?” “I’m fine,” I say. “Just a cough.” Annoyance rises in me, when he continues to stare. “Leave,” I growl. He raises his hand in surrender. “Alright. Alright Alpha,” he draws the title out in a way that gets on my nerves before he leaves. I rub my forehead, trying to ease the ache forming. “Why am I surrounded by Idiots?” The scent of Vanilla tickles my nostrils long before she walks in. “You better not be calling me an Idiot too,” Melody says as she drops a cup of water with tablets on my desk. I reach for the tablet and her hand closes around my wrist. A loud growl leaves my mouth before I could stop it. A warning from my wolf to let go. She releases me slowly. “Did you eat something? You aren’t supposed to take this on an empty stomach.” “I did,” I say, reaching for the tablet and glass of water. She watches me swallow it. “You need to see the pack healer. You can’t keep treating yourself.” I shake my head. “I can’t have them panicking over their Alpha having the blight. Besides, Cody has come back with news and hopefully a permanent cure.” “Not for your wolf though,” she murmurs. I bury my face in my hands and look into that part of me where my wolf resides. His glowing dark eyes glares at me before he turns his back on me like he has since the day of the Bonding moon. I could remember the day when I returned to the pack house, only to find out she was gone. The guards had reported seeing a Lycan in the house. The only explanation was that the rogue Lycan had found its way into the pack and taken the only person left in the house. Elaris. I had ordered a search for her, both I and my wolf going crazy. But I knew she was alive, and could feel it through the weak thread of bond there. That was when my dad and I had our first fight. Not physically. According to him, couldn't understand why I couldn't let go of the useless Omega. But the old wolf is gone now, not by my hands. With the way my wolf is getting weaker and weaker from the rejection, I might be next. Michael comes into the room with Cody. “Alpha,” Cody greets, then glances at Melody, “Luna.” “Any news,” I ask eagerly. “Yeah, according to the crone. The only way to cure the blight is by...”CHAPTER 19 - BLIGHT GETS WORSE“Yes, I knew.” I stare at him. “And you never thought to tell me?” “But how did you come to know?” he asks instead. There’s a painful tightness in my throat. “That doesn't matter. What matters is the fact that you knew something so important about me and yet, you kept it from me. Why?” He swallows hard. “I didn't want you to think about all that love, you had already gone through all that. I…” He pauses, his eyes pleading with me. “I just wanted to protect you… I throw my hands in the air. “Protect me from what?” My hand clenches into fists on my thighs. “It seems like right from birth. Everyone loves to make decisions for me. This is not protection. I had the right to know and you heard no right to hide this from me.” He pauses, stares long at me. I wait for him to argue so I can release all the frustration building up in me but instead he apologizes. “You’re right. I shouldn't have. You deserved to have known this. I'm sorry,” he reaches out f
CHAPTER 18 - ARE YOU HAPPY WITH HIM ELARIS After leaving Sarah’s cottage, I don't waste time in informing the Lycans of our immediate departure. Luckily there isn't a fuss, as they are all tired of the pack already anyway. I go looking for Liora but meet Cassiel on the way. He raises an eyebrow when he sees me at the Alpha wing. “I came to inform Liora that I would be leaving,” I say. He rubs his eyes. “Liora has traveled.” I feel a twinge of disappointment. “Again?” I had been hoping to see her before I left. “She told you about her travels?” he asks. “She did tell me she has been traveling..” He perks. “She told you where?” I shake my head, intending on the promise I made to Liora. “No.” He eyes me. “You’re hiding something.” I fold my arms over my chest, realize I'm being defensive then drop them. “What makes you think that?” He startles me by taking a quick desperate step toward me, his scent overflooding my senses and I resist the urge to take one back. N
CHAPTER 17- HAD MALRIK KNOWN?ELARIS“Who would I even tell? I won't tell anyone, I promise.” I let go of her shoulders.Liora nods but I can still see her hesitating. For a moment, I think she isn't going to speak until she says, “I met…my mate on the day of the moon ritual.”Happiness washes over me. “Oh wow, that's great news!” I exclaim but her expression is still solemn. My brows furrow. “Isn’t it a good thing? What’s wrong.”She shakes her eyes and casts her eyes downward. “There’s nothing wrong with him. He’s perfect.” A smile takes over her face but it drops. “It’s just that he’s a rogue.”I blink. “Oh.”The Ash mere pack still runs on the old traditions. The council enforces them up till today, it was so surprising that they had accepted that much human technology in the clinic. They don't accept rogues into the pack no matter what. I can see why Liora isn't at rest. Then it hits me. “So that’s why you have been traveling!” She nods.I grimace. “You’ve been traveling into no
CHAPTER 16 - DON'T TELL ANYONE ELARIS My eyes turns to slits. “I’m what?” He doesn't utter another word. I rub my chin. “I could have sworn It was your chest I targeted and not your head.” Cassiel glowers at me. “Very funny.” “Indeed, It’s very funny.” I open the fridge and bring out ingredients and loaves of bread, intent on making a sandwich but Cassiel isn't done talking. “You need proper food, this is why I insisted…” My finger clenches around the packet of bread. “On cooking for me? You’re not with me. Are you trying to get your pack to talk about me or what?” His voice comes out strained, “I’m trying to help you.” Cassiel reaches out for the items in my hands but I move away “I can help myself. You should be asleep Alpha, you have pack duties to run tomorrow. If anyone is supposed to be cooking, isn't it an Omega?” He takes a step closer. “We no longer allow Omegas to stay up late for work, nor do they do other stressful activities.” I blink rapidly. “
CHAPTER 15 - LET ME TAKE CARE OF YOU ELARIS He smiles but it doesn't reach his eyes, “I had a feeling you would say that.” I tip my chin at him. “So, you can go ahead and say the words.” He’s still for a moment then he shakes his head. “I can't right now.” I inhale, trying to calm my racing heart, “Why not?” “My pack needs me right now, Elaris. I can't afford to break the bond right now, it would weaken me. My pack needs me right now, please understand.” “Alright. So what you mean is that you won't break it until your pack recovers from the blight?” He swallows. “I can't.” I wave my hand. “That’s fine. I will give my blood for the pack.” His eyes widens, and he sits straighter. “You will?” I nod. “Yes, but you have to break the bond right after.” There’s silence then, “I will.” “You have to swear it.” “I have no reason to hold onto the bond anymore.” Right, he’s with Melody while I'm with Malrik. My throat tightens, why does this still hurt? “Very well,” I rise from the
CHAPTER 14 - ACCEPT MY REJECTION ELARIS Melody calls a nearby guard. “Get our guests settled in.” When he arrives, he stares up at the Lycans literally and frowns. “Alright Luna.” Together with Melody and Michael, we head for the pack clinic. When we step into it, the pup is already laid on a stretcher and is being rushed somewhere by the pack doctors. “Cover her nose! Cover her nose!” the mother sobs. The nose mask she’s wearing barely muffles it. “Maybe it’s the blight. I don't want her getting infected please.” They open a ward door and she tries to follow them inside but one of the doctors blocks her. “Wait outside, we can't have you in here for the examination.” She stares emptily at them and they close the door behind her. Her eyes remains fixed on the door for what felt like forever before she crumbles to the floor. She pulls her dress up to her mouth to stifle the sound of her cries. “Goddess please, she’s too young. Too young. Don't do this to me, I beg you.” My thr
CHAPTER 11 - SIBLINGS PAINELARISI stare at him, trying to process what he said. “You want me to go back?”“Yes.” He gestures at his arm. “In the three years I've known you, your Lycan has never had much problem with me. But she does now and we both know, it’s because of the Alpha. With him having
CHAPTER 4 - THE LYCAN EMERGES Sharp pain slices through my chest, making me gasp. But without a wolf, I couldn’t experience the full pain of breaking a bond. Caspian falls to his knees, clawing at his chest, blood seeps through his chest down his hands. I take a step towards him then stop. I sta
CHAPTER 3 - I REJECTED HIM I let out a breath and forced myself to relax. When I turn back, there’s a fake smile plastered on my face. Soon enough I’m standing in front of Cassiel, Melody, Michael and our delta’s son; Cody. Michael grins at me. “In the two years that we left, you have already gr
