Hearing my vulgar words, my mother did not bother to say anything more. I gave her a smirk before I once again entered the dressing room to change back into my normal black dress.

I walked out of the changing room with the dress resting in my arm as I once again went to the register girl to pay for the dress. Without any more delay, my mother paid for the dress, and the girl wrapped it beautifully and placed it in a bag before she handed it to me.

“Thank you for shopping with us.” I thanked her and walked out of the store with my mother seething in anger behind me, her hands in a tight fist.

Did they really think I would pay for a wedding dress that was not of my own choosing? Sometimes I wondered how these people managed to finish school and get a degree. They assumed the people around them were all fools while they were the only smart ones.

Once we returned home, I went to the kitchen directly, not bothering to talk to the three species that were sitting in the living room waiting for me to report to them about the trip to the store.

“Marta, let me show you how hot I look in my wedding dress,” I said as I put down the bag in my hand and opened the picture app on my phone.

They had talked about the contract marriage my parents had forced on me. I had nothing I needed to hide from them, so I did not see anything wrong with showing them the different stages I had to go through before the wedding itself — at least I had supportive people who behaved like normal parents should behave.

“Show me, darling. Why did you not tell me you were trying on your wedding dress?” Marta abandoned what she was doing by the stove and sat down next to me.

She placed a small cake in front of me while she took my phone and started to look at the photos eagerly. I stared at the small cake and felt the unfamiliar warmth in my heart again. For years I have battled with eating disorders and body dysmorphia — two conditions that had tortured me since my younger days because of my parents’ disgusting comments on my body.

I have not always been skinny, actually, it was not until my nineteenth birthday that Marta saw something was wrong with me and took me to the hospital. I was diagnosed with an eating disorder. Over the past years, thanks to her care, I regained some weight and was diagnosed as healthy enough to not need medications. Some days were harder than others, but Marta never failed to make me eat in smaller quantities without making it feel like a lot.

The cake in front of me was so small that a normal person could eat it in one go, yet for me it would take almost thirty minutes to finish it without getting sick. I decided not to comment on it and took the cake, taking a bite. The warm and soft cake melted in my mouth almost instantly, leaving a sweet but not overly sugary almond taste behind. My eyes widened with happiness as I did a little dance. Almond was my favorite.

“Marta, this tastes amazing. Now you have to make it for me every day,” I said with a pout as I leaned against her shoulder, which earned me a small kiss on my forehead.

After finishing my cake, I left the kitchen and wanted to go to my room in order to shower and change my clothes, but a faint and sweet voice stopped me in my steps.

“Sister, are you still angry? Is that why you do not want to talk with us? I promise you I did not know Father would ask you to sign the contract when I refused, or else I would have signed it.”

Her voice sank in sadness as she stared at me with eyes that glimmered with tears. I so wanted to slap her right now. What was there to cry about when everything was done? Who else would Father ask other than me when she refused to sign the contract?

Pretending bitch. All of them were actors disguised as wealthy socialites.

“She is lucky to marry Luciano. Dear, what does this have to do with you? A murderer like her can only marry a murderer like him. Stop crying, I hate to see you cry,” a man said as he embraced the trembling beauty next to him.

Did they really have to disgust me exactly after I had just eaten one of the world’s best desserts? Adrian was my ex‑fiancé and a man worthy of everything bad that could happen on this earth. Four years ago, when the rape incident happened, he had locked me in a storage room to stop me from reporting the matter to the police, yet when I found the man who had raped me and split his throat — I became the villain in their story. Was that not funny?

They were the saints while I, the victim, was the villain. Ironic, really.

The man had not actually raped me, but the thought of his hands on my body mocked me the moment I saw him laughing with his friends. He had almost ruined me, yet my father had pardoned him and allowed him to return to his guard position.

He had no right to pardon the man who almost raped me — it was not him who screamed and begged in that room.

Before I could answer their remarks, Melinda spoke again with the same weak but now fainter voice, as if she was scared I would snap her neck the second she finished talking.

“Maybe… maybe sister, he is not as most people say he is…”

I stared at her with my heated gaze.

“Shut up. If he was not that bad, why did you not marry him? It will do you well to remember — do not speak to me until I leave, or I might split your throat the same way I did back then.” I said before I turned around and walked up the stairs to my room — leaving behind her loud cry in shock.

It did not matter if Luciano was hell. I had long grown used to the pit of fire since the day I was born.

Luciano's povI cursed under my breath as I grabbed my car keys in the closet before I hurried down the stairs, not bothering to hang up on the panicked bodyguard on the other side of the phone. A bodyguard who had left my brother alone to make a deal with someone he was not supposed to make a deal with. Now I understood why he had come up with a stupid excuse of oversleeping instead of signing the contract with Rivera. Right now I was beyond agitated and frustrated — I was mad, raging even. My younger brother was not a very careful person; heck, he never thought about what he did and the consequences it could lead to. And this one might cost him his life.I entered the kitchen to see Valentina and Marta standing above the stove, talking about something I could not make out or hear, but that was the least of my problems right now.“I have to head out for something quick, I’ll be back later,” I said, waiting for her to turn fully and give me a shocked but gentle nod before I rushed out

Luciano's Pov“I do not care how or what you do, get it done, Allen,” I screamed at my idiot of a younger brother through the phone as I cut the call and slammed it onto the table with frustration. This is why I like to do my own shit. The moment I allow anyone to do anything for me, they give me a headache that wouldn’t exist if I had just done it myself. In this case, my younger brother had overslept on the day he was supposed to sign a contract with one of our biggest clients. How he managed to actually forget something of that importance was beyond me.I let out a sigh and ran a hand over my face as annoyance bubbled in my body. The adrenaline needed to be vented out or else I would beat the fuck out of my younger brother the moment I saw him. I stood up from my chair and made my way towards my bedroom to change from my comfortable clothes to a pair of gym clothes before I started my workout. As soon as I opened the door to my room, I was greeted by Valentina standing in the middl

It was safe to say that she was not very happy with my choice, but I could not care any less about her happiness. As a coach she was shitty — never once did she care about our health and wellbeing. If she could get paid for our misery, then I was allowed to compete in whichever category I wanted to. Either way she was going to make my life harder; I might as well do it with someone I enjoy being around. “You do realize she is going to be up your ass for this, right?” Selin said as she held my leg, stretching it as far up as she could until my muscles protested in pain. I tapped her shoulder before I pulled my hamstring back. “I could not give any less shit about her opinions right now. Either way she was not going to make these coming three months easier.” We switched positions as she stood and balanced herself on one leg, holding my shoulder as I now stretched her left leg as high as I possibly could before I felt her tapping my shoulder. “Let’s not talk about her. Tell me about yo

“I love him,” Luca said as he pointed towards his jersey, the one Uncle Will had bought for him as his fifth birthday gift. “He is so good. I want to be like him when I grow up,” he said proudly, puffing his chest like a proud mother. His love for football had worried Marta, but she quickly realized she would rather have him obsessed with this stupid sport than hooked on video games and YouTube. I personally did not know why it would be a problem for him to watch a sport — after all, everyone had a passion for something — but it wasn’t until I saw him ugly‑cry about his team losing that I understood Marta’s hardship. He got grumpy and rather distant when his team lost. I mean, how devastating could it be for a couple of men running after a ball to lose a game? My question was always answered with sarcasm and Luca’s burning eyes.“Personally, I think Turan is better than him,” Luciano said as he crossed his arms over his chest. This man really knew how to get into people’s heads, becau

  • The contract that freed her    Chapter 17

I did not know how or when I fell asleep, but I woke up on the bed the next day, my blanket tightly wrapped around me as I had fallen asleep in my training clothes. That was gross, especially now when I thought about the amount of sweat these clothes had soaked up during my long training hours.I slid off the bed and hurried towards the bathroom, pushing aside the thought that kept running in my head. Did I get a pimple on my back? That would be a nightmare, especially now when I would be in backless training clothes. I would hate it if my back was adorned with a big red pimple. After my hot shower, I stood in front of the mirror, turning my neck to the best of my ability, trying to see if I had any pimples on my back. After what felt like an hour of inspecting myself, I happily came out of the shower and ran to the closet. The room was cold even if the weather outside seemed quite sunny; I still felt cold for some reason.I put on a simple black set of training clothes and started ma

  • The contract that freed her    Chapter 16

I opened my closet and put on my training set once again. The white set of training shorts and sports bra shaped my curvy body perfectly, yet the more I looked at myself in the mirror, the more I thought about her words.Elephant — that had been the animal she compared me to. I had fought tooth and nail for this body, yet all it took for me to despise it was one word from a woman whose cruelty I had witnessed firsthand. A woman I knew very well not to listen to, but the disgusted feeling that rose in my heart was so bitter and so strong that I couldn’t fight it. Maybe she was right.Losing ten kilograms would not kill me. I needed to skate faster and jump higher now more than any other time. I nodded my head with a smile, patting myself on the back for not thinking about the matter any further.I had indeed underestimated how addicting and inviting the journey would be once it started. I had forgotten how innocently it had begun from the very beginning, and I — as stupid as I was — ha
