I knew that with the same certainty I knew most things I arrived at through the particular channel of having stopped performing and started simply thinking. She deserved the full version. She had asked with her eyes without asking with her words, watching me look at the phone, watching me decline it, watching me turn it over, and I had seen her watching and I had made the decision in real time.I had told her.She had received it. “Thank you for not editing it”…said directly, without reassurance attached, just the acknowledgment of a thing that had been done and that she valued.
