She had said it so matter-of-factly, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“Can’t have children?” I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper. “What do you mean?”
She scoffed, her lips curling into a twisted smile. “Exactly what I said. Your husband, Grayson Anderson, is sterile. He’s been that way for years. So, unless you’ve been getting cosy with someone else other than my husband, that thing you’re carrying isn’t his.”
I felt the floor tilt beneath me, the room spinning as the weight of her words pressed down on me. Could it be true? Was this some twisted game she was playing, or was there some truth to her words?
