Bennett’s fists clenched at his sides, the air between them thick with the scent of ozone and static. Harrison’s milky eyes narrowed, and he let out a dry, hacking cough before speaking with sharp irritation. “Bennett, rein in your wolf! Avery speaks a harsh truth. Do not let your pride blind you to our vulnerabilities. Antagonizing her serves no purpose.” Bennett’s pupils flared with a flash of heat. Catching Harrison’s growing disapproval, he forced a shallow, fake smile onto his face. “You are correct, High Alpha. I was being impulsive.”

The conditioner is thick and fragrant, sliding through my tangled hair like silk. When I reach up to twist it into a bun, I spot something silver on one of the glass shelves. A new razor. Still sealed. Part of me hesitates—it feels weird using something that probably wasn’t meant for me. But the rest of me is tired of feeling half-feral. I grab it.

Although my whole body shook, I raised it anyway. The fight grew tougher and Rogues circled around us, snarling and gnashing their teeth as their eyes locked on us like prey. Keller’s sword flashed at them once again and the blood on it soaked the dirt. Bennett fought with raw rage, his fists breaking the skulls of them but there were too many. We were surrounded! Bennett’s breath grew harsh, his body trembling. His eyes flicked red as the wolf clawed at his skin. "Bennett…" I whispered, but he didn’t hear me.

I always have to hold her hand, so we're leaving immediately. "No, I look awful. I'll definitely give her a scare. Brian! Brian! Bring me my razor, and also, bring out that suit I had custom-made in Iverna. Kara said I look really impressive in a suit. She loves seeing me in one." Bennett gave frantic instructions. He felt an odd, nervous anticipation about meeting Kara, and he feared that his appearance might upset her. "Bennett, maybe you should take another careful look at that post on Instagram?" Quinton felt sorry for Bennett.

I hope being this nice doesn’t come back to bite her in the ass. “What about this f*cker? He ordered your capture and most likely planned to kill you when he captured Ryker.” Bennet is vibrating with anger, his fists are balled at his sides, focus switching from me to Kennedy. Even that movement is twitchy, like he and his wolf can’t agree where to look. His dark red hair is not helping his menacing look in the slightest. He and I will have to fight this out eventually. I will pay this price and then hopefully we can move forward, if he doesn’t kill me.

Bennet says as he walks in and plops down into the chair across from me. “Hey, thanks for coming. I..uh…wanted to talk to you about…” I stammer, trying to think of something. I stab my hand through my still-damp hair. “...Talk about the rogue.” Bennet’s forehead wrinkles as he eyes me curiously. “The rogue? What about him? I thought the guards were going to let him go when his hands healed up… which, by the way, man, that was beautifully evil. I haven’t seen it first hand, but the guards said his hands are permanently fucked.”

Mai answered, fear lacing her tone, clearly worried she had somehow hurt him. Bennett carefully approached his son, with no protests from him. With a rumble of his chest he began to shine as brightly as the moon in the night’s sky. It suddenly dawned on me that I had no idea what abilities my pack has. I need to ask Barrett and Bennett about this when I get back to our pack.

The room went silent only to be broken by Lara’s gasps as the harsh living room light revealed Benny’s completely bald head. He looked thinner, paler, and almost sickly. There was no trace of the cocky playboy he once was. “What the hell did you do?” Lara whispered, horrified. Benny’s eyes darted between us, his expression serious for once. “I kept seeing Ruslan's face in my dream. It was frustrating as I had to weigh several options all at once. Rubbing his bald head, he smirked, “I shaved it off. Just in case your brother decided to smash my head open. I thought it would be easier for him to land a punch without the hair in the way.” He shrugged.
