Two wolves encircled me, glaring at me with their dark red eyes as they came closer. I turned too and collided with them. We tore at each other, I wiped at one of them, cutting a gash in his ear while the other bit my shoulder. I howled, trying to shake him off but he tried to hold fast. Soon his teeth lost grip and he flew back into the crowd of wolves. The other took off before I got to him. I grabbed the other wolf who had bitten me and cut his throat. "What gave you the courage to think that a pup like you can defeat an Alpha?" I snapped.

While he was swinging at the wolves, one of them came up from behind him and bit down on his foot, wrapping its tight jaws around Garin’s left ankle. Garin roared in pain and struck the wolf on the head, forcing it to relinquish its bitten grip. This left Garin open and vulnerable and the other wolves jumped on him. While two of them tried to munch on Garin’s face, the others were biting him all over the rest of his body. They were biting, ripping and tearing through his flesh but he held on to the faces of the two that were trying to go for his face and neck, knowing that they were the ones attempting to land the killer bite.

As soon as I landed, I was immediately shocked by the scene before me. There was a frail, white wolf, biting down on a fierce black wolf, struggling to keep the black wolf pinned beneath its fragile body. However, the black wolf's claws had pierced into the white wolf's body, and its claws seemed to be venomous. The white wolf's body was covered in massive, purple wounds, and dark blood had soaked its pristine fur.

Two wolves stood beneath an eclipsed moon—one black, one white. Tangled together. Bound. She took a slow breath. “They were more than mates.” Theoden’s jaw clenched.
