Then a hand went up. “It’s y equals mx plus b.” I turned toward the voice. The guy sitting next to me was Hispanic. Sharp jawline. Curly hair. Blue eyes. Arms like tree trunks. “That’s correct,” Mrs. Payne said. “And your name?” “Marcelo,” he replied. “My name is Marcelo.”

He mumbled, trying to sound as nonchalant and unfazed as possible, but it almost felt as though Natalia could see through his guard. Though, she didn’t. She only hummed, still in uncertainty of what had just happened with Lucifer. “Well, I heard from Chico.” She sighed. clasping her hands together, her eyes focusing straight on a lazy-looking Lucifer. Chico was one of Natalia's friend—a very helpful connection at that. He worked by the Mexican border, where shipments usually came through, and helped most of the dealers including Lucifer, smuggle in the drugs without raising an alarm. “And what happened?”

Adam’s smirk deepens as he steps closer, his eyes locked on mine, glowing like embers in the dimly lit hall. “RUN!” Zoe’s scream shatters the tension, and the hall erupts into chaos. Guests and staff scream as they scatter toward the exits. Chairs topple, decorations crash to the ground, and the air fills with frantic cries. Even the priest, clutching his Bible, tries to flee, but Adam moves faster than any human should. His hand darts out, seizing the priest by the throat with a vice-like grip.

It took almost 2 months for me to recover from that shock and pain. I check the time, it is almost 9 and if I don't make it to Amber's place on time, she will get worried. It is only 30 minutes drive to Merced. So, I turn on the music and turn around the driveway.
