“God, Georgia, I want to believe you so badly. But you keep giving me reasons not to.” Her face crumpled, pain filling her eyes. And the moment the words left me, I hated myself more than I ever thought possible. Georgia’s voice cracked through the glass, broken and raw. “If you can’t believe me, Henry… then who will?”

Marcus hissed, his voice a broken, distorted record, "then no one can!" He didn't try to pull the lever back. He tried to **Break** it. With a roar of corporate spite, Marcus slammed a piece of heavy machinery into the lever. The lever snapped. The "Dump" sequence failed. The Core let out a sound like a thousand suns exploding. "**CRITICAL OVERLOAD. INITIATING: TOTAL SECTOR DELETION.**" I looked at the broken lever. I looked at the screaming sphere of light. And then, I looked at the "Developer Key" pencil in my pocket.

My body aches, but nothing hurts as much as the emptiness growing inside my chest. I shuffle forward and kneel next to the frame, reaching for one of the wooden slats that once supported the mattress. I try to wedge it back into place, but the other side is cracked, and the bracket it belongs to has been ripped straight from the joint. I try again. It doesn’t fit. Nothing fits. He broke it beyond repair. My hands fall to my lap. I stare at the wreckage, and for a moment, I forget how to breathe. Then it all hits at once.

" He asked again, clueless. I blinked, realising that in all of the drama i just let on, the crucial information wasn't passed. "I.. i.. i uhm, it.. it's broken, all of it." I confessed slowly, stuttering as the words choked my throat. "What's broken?" He queried doubtfully. A sob/hiccup escaped from my mouth. "The test pieces." I let out. ###

The core chamber was no longer pristine. It was broken. The towering central pillar—once smooth, seamless, perfect—was split down its spine, jagged fractures glowing faintly as dying currents arced between exposed layers of circuitry. Cables hung loose like severed nerves. Sparks snapped in erratic bursts, throwing harsh, stuttering light across the room. Consoles along the perimeter were dead or dying—screens blackened, glass spiderwebbed with cracks. Some still flickered in broken loops of corrupted code before going dark entirely.
