The mirror in Connor's bathroom had a crack running through it like a lightning bolt, splitting his reflection down the middle. He'd punched it six months ago, the night Maya had walked into the Tidewater Inn and turned his carefully constructed life into chaos. I froze. A man stood by the edge of the trees, lighting a cigarette with steady hands. Smoke curled around him like a crown of shadows.
