My chest tightened as I watched the silent exchange between them.
The air shifted, thick with unspoken history.
And suddenly, I felt like an outsider in a game I didn’t even know I was playing.
Valerie’s gaze flickered back to me, amusement dancing in her expression.
"Careful, sweetheart," she purred. "Men like Damien don’t keep pretty little things around for long."
Damien’s jaw clenched. "Enough, Valerie."
But the damage was done.
I sucked in a breath, my throat suddenly dry.
Valerie smiled, satisfied, and leaned closer to Damien. "Don’t forget who you really belong to, darling."
