MARKED BY DECEPTION
Rowan stepped forward, moving toward me until I felt my back hit the wall, only then realising how close he was.
“I told him not to tell anyone,” I said, lifting my chin, refusing to step back. “You heard me.”
He leaned in slightly, his voice calm and dangerous.
“You know the thing about humans?” he said. “They can’t keep promises.”
“I was talking to my friend,” I shot back, meeting his gaze head-on, pretending the closeness didn’t affect me at all.
“One you don’t even know can be trusted,” he replied. “Did you ever stop to think about why they closed your father’s case so quickly?”
