Murmurs ripple through the crowd, but they fall silent as I raise my hand for attention. “We have faced countless foes and emerged victorious. And we shall do so again,” I declare, my gaze sweeping over the assembled warriors. “Prepare yourselves, for the battle ahead will test our strength and unity like never before. But we are demons! We are forged in fire and darkness, destined to reign supreme!” A roar of approval rises from the warriors, their fierce loyalty to their young king clear in their fervent cries. I raise my hand once more, signaling for silence as I lock eyes with each demon in the room.

That night, when the enforcement officers conducted their search, they were looking for Raven. Crap! I had yelled at him just the other night. I, an utterly ordinary human, had yelled at a demon. Was it too late to get on my knees and beg for forgiveness? I dragged my heavy feet back home.

All three demons recoiled at once, as if an explosion had shoved them back. I saw fear in their eyes. Demons. Creatures of the underworld who fear nothing and no one. They were afraid of the disfigured omega who, five seconds earlier, had been a trembling bundle against a tree. Emili stood. But not the way a person stands. She *unfolded,* like a shadow stretching in reverse — fluid, unnatural. Her mouth opened, and a sound came out that was neither human nor animal: a deep hiss vibrating on frequencies that made every hair on my body stand on end.

When they heard the commotion, they opened their eyes. However, their eyes remained unfocused. There was no fear, no shock, and no desire to ask for help. They turned their heads mechanically and looked at us. With creepy smiles on their faces, they said, “Welcome home, master.”

The demon’s voice changed simultaneously from that of an old woman to that of a small girl and back to a young teenage boy all the voices were screaming one thing “She belongs to us!”

Meanwhile, the candle light flared and the place began to glow in an eerie yellow light that made our shadows look larger than life. The two men began to chant loudly as the candle light flickered, becoming bright one second and going dull the next. Clarissa threw me a worried look but I was stuck…quite literally. I saw Yesmir whisper something to Clarissa who nodded her head frantically. “In the name of the Lord of Demons and Darkness, and in the name of all that is unholy and wicked, I call thee, O Great demon of the realm of wrath, upon this place.
