Ike may be the stereotypical intense and slightly-unhinged town Vietnam vet, but Derek is, unfortunately, how most people think of small town taxi drivers. Skinny, with greasy hair slinking to his shoulders around a narrow face pock-marked with old acne scars, Derek always smelled of smoke, tobacco juice and something peppermint, like cheap schnapps. Derek Brown was high on the list of people I’d rather avoid. His question, however, took me aback. “Wait. What? He’s told you, too?”

“Damn, I wish I hit it before them though,” “Fuck you, Derek. How’s that?” Nathaniel said harshly. He was annoyed now. “Easy eh. I’m just messing with you. Lighten up,” Derek said raising his hands up now. “Who do you want me to off? I’ll do the job no questions asked,” Derek asked in all seriousness now. That was what he did best. He was Martin Hernandez’s assassin. He killed people and never asked questions. He was very good at his job. He took training very well. A boy from the streets looking for any way to survive. He didn’t like the high rich life and he didn’t have a family to go home too, so he chose to stay with Martin which was becoming the worst mistake of his life.

He didn’t even bother eating it and just spit the chunks of meat afterward. None of us dared to make a noise. Everyone felt that Derek was beyond recognizable at that point, I could hear everyone’s heart beating fast. “It’s dangerous beta Venus! Please get back here!” Easton whispers in panic. What do I do? It’s just like how Cheryl described it. I never thought I’d see this side of him.

After all, Derek was in this position, and he knew that at this point, he had to admit it.The evidence was stacked up, and the questions were too specific to dodge.

I trusted no one. The second my finance adviser spoke about a small architect company in Massachusetts my anger rose to new levels. As much as I kept my past exactly where it belonged, I still had a keen interest in anything they loved. This company, Derek fucking admired. Every word he utters is captured, his overconfidence blinding him to the trap that’s been set.
