Emma released a long breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. She locked her own door and leaned back against it briefly, her eyes slowly sweeping around the room. Only then did she remember what she had been about to do earlier. She crossed the room and opened the door in the corner. Inside was a tiny bathroom—no shower. Just a bucket placed beneath a tap, with a small bowl resting inside it.

But his office light was on. That low amber glow she recognised from the night she had come back and found him working past midnight. She walked toward it. The door was not fully closed. I stand in front of the massive floor-to-ceiling mirror, staring at the woman looking back at me. I am draped in a custom Vera Wang gown that costs more than most people make in a decade. Resting heavily against my collarbone is the Jackson family heirloom—a flawless, teardrop diamond necklace. It is the exact same necklace Alexander gave his real wife on their first anniversary.

Elizabeth only made her way to the bed before dragging the duvet off Emma's body. The cold caressed her skin as she remained exposed for Alex to see. Alex's fingers clenched when he saw that Emma was indeed totally naked. He didn't need any more proof to know that Emma had indeed slept with someone else.

Celina squatted next to them and helped Emma regain her footing as she crawled away from Gabe. “But I don’t wanna go to bed,” Emma whined. They’d been roughhousing for a while now, and Emma panted. Gabe shared a look with Celina that said they both knew Emma would be sound asleep minutes after her head hit the pillow. “Bedtime is always the same. You know the drill.” Celina pointed down the hallway. Gabe stood, stretching his back as Emma ran off toward her bedroom. “She packs a punch.” Celina crossed her arms, but a smile tugged at her lips. “You were the one who thought it was a good idea to include her. At least she hasn’t tried to wrestle with anyone else.”
