Saea moved closer to me, her body a small, trembling presence in the vast, intimidating darkness. Without thinking, she reached for my hand, her touch a small, desperate gesture of comfort and connection.
I flinched, a reflexive, instinctual reaction to the unexpected contact. But this time, I didn't pull away. Instead, I turned my hand over, my fingers finding hers in the darkness. For the first time, I fully intertwined my fingers with hers, my grip a firm, unyielding pressure that was both a promise and a plea.
