I remained at the table, staring at the map until Elias approached, his presence comforting yet piercing.
“You spoke well,” he murmured.
I nodded, doubt still churning within. “They needed to hear it.”
“You needed to say it,” Elias added softly, then sharpened again. “But remember, Jace—strength without purpose destroys more than it builds.”
His words lingered long after he left.
The phoenix symbolized renewal, hope rising from ashes. Yet, standing alone in the abandoned factory's dim glow, I feared we weren't rising. We were spreading the fire—and I couldn’t shake the dread that I was leading them straight into the flames.
