The pages of the book called to me and I once again settled into my spot on the bed and began reading. "Lioren, the brightest, was entrusted with the ability to control light, the power over day time and night time. Everyone worshiped her because she was beautiful. Hair as bright and as golden as the sun, her eyes sparkled like the stars in the night sky, her skin as radiant as light itself, for she was the embodiment of light. It is said that she became lonely and hence she created the supernatural species called "the fae", she crafted them from her light and imbued them with enough magic to control the elements around them.

he said, his voice so flat I could not read him. "Yeah," I muttered, not even looking up as I shuffled through some papers that did not matter anymore. He took a step closer, and I could feel the weight of an unseen pressure bearing down on me. "Zephyr City's a real maze, with secrets as deep as the ocean. Wouldn't you rather stay in Cascade City? I'm here, at least." There was a worry in his eyes that I did not recognize. I swiftly, icily replied, "I can handle myself, Mr. Porter. You should save your concern for yourself."

“Not that I’d brag or anything.” Seraphine raised an eyebrow. “Right. Subtle.” Mina rolled her eyes. “Dragon boys and Djinn. Always dramatic.” Finally, Lyra spoke, her voice lower, carrying an almost silky quality. “Castle Tenebrae, castle of the Dreamwalkers, incubi, illusionists. I’m Phantasm. We bend dreams and emotions into shape, weaving illusions so real they can make you laugh, cry, or break.” Her gaze lingered on Seraphine, steady, knowing. “People say Phantasms blur the line between reality and desire. That’s why they fear us.”

I rambled on. “You have the same auras but yours is brighter. Every ruler of the Underworld has to be an heir of the Light.” I understood nothing from what Mismaia told me. I know it’s probably a serious matter but I just can’t wrap my head around it. I was just cooking mini donuts and waffles like a second ago. I get minimum wage and she’s telling me I’m practically like royalty. “I wanna believe you. This is just not normal for me.” She held my hand. I swiped it away. “I’m sorry.”

The light started fading, turning weaker and weaker. I couldn’t resist looking towards the spot where it had just shone so brightly it almost made me blind. But instead of the light, there was a shadow, a presence. A man. He was tall, so unbearably tall. Falling over his broad shoulders was a beautiful, thick, orange hair. Even in the darkness, the different shades made it look vibrant, like light was actually shining from it. He was wearing a white tunic, which stretched across his broad shoulders and protruding pecs, before it fell loosely around his middle, being tucked into his brown leather pants.

I can even feel Light's desire to devour these ugly creatures. Light and I are connected, and we understand each other's feelings. Light looked at me with pleading eyes and her body trembled with excitement. I grinned helplessly. With that adorable look she's giving me, how can I resist? These phantoms are in for a surprise today. "Can I?" Light asked expectantly. "Wait for a moment. Someone is coming. You can go wild later." I whispered while on alert. "Okay!" Light grinned joyfully and looked at the phantoms greedily. She couldn't even hide her excitement. This little cat!

“Anything more than a fraction of a second and we may not be strong enough to protect your spirit.” Leticia, Delilah, and Lady Camille take each other’s hands and make a circle around me. They close their eyes and raise their joined hands. Their energy combined with Lex’s fills me with light and warmth and love. It feels like it’s practically lifting me off the ground. “Now Kas! Do it now!” Lex howls with excitement. I close my eyes and focus. When I open them, the light surrounding me is blinding. I reach my finger out and let it lightly brush against the cover of the book. The slight graze of contact allows dark magic to flood my spirit, balancing out the light.

He gently wrapped his arm around her wrist and pulled her closer, fitting her body against his chest as if shielding her from the world. “Sleep,” he murmured, his eyes never leaving her face. **** The Kingdom of Light. It lay beyond the veil of ordinary realms, where the sky never truly darkened and the sun did not rise or set, but hovered eternally, bathing the land in a soft, living glow. The light here was not harsh or blinding; it breathed, pulsed, and responded, as though the kingdom itself was alive.

It was a cosmic tapestry pulsing with a gentle, harmonious rhythm—a living grid that the denizens of a thousand different star systems called the Light of the Luna. This was not a light born of destructive solar fires or the overwhelming, blinding pressure of raw magical authority. It was a soft, pearlescent glow, carrying the exact warm cadence of a spring dawn and the absolute, unshakeable safety of a mother’s protective embrace. It was an eternal flame kindled millennia ago in a single, dark dungeon by a broken woman who had refused to let her suffering make her cruel. Now, it had expanded to become the spiritual anchor of the entire universe.

Tangle pulled his mate by the ear, laughing at his mate. … My face was still red, riding on the back of Creed. We had left the Elven territory now, heading to the Light Kingdom. It was the same area we had circled just a week and a half ago, but now I had a name. Each territory had a different theme, and this one was full of light, bright spaces, and nothing but fluttering faes and fairies. The bright colors descended from the stained glass windows onto the marketplace below were beautiful. The little fae children fluttering around, learning to fly.
