A sudden dread hit my stomach. I tried to push the book back. “No, I can’t take this, Kiara. Don’t talk like that. It sounds like a goodbye gift, and I’m not accepting that.”
“It’s not a goodbye,” Kiara insisted, her eyes fierce. “I don’t know what the future holds and I’m not getting any visions or prophecy, and that terrifies me. Please, just take it.”
