[Rancel’s room | Vampire kingdom] The room is softly lit, casting a warm, inviting glow. Rancel, the hybrid woman in her early twenties, sits at her vanity mirror, wearing a resplendent gown adorned with a sparkling tiara. She looks every bit the part of a newly crowned queen. Her room is adorned with flowers and the air is filled with the sweet scent of roses.

When our eyes met, she raised her chin in a deliberate show of arrogance. The rest of the room grew quiet, their eyes on me, waiting for something to unfold. Rosie Holman, Vahn's mother, was the first to break the silence. "Cecilia, Pearly, come sit beside me." Rosie beamed as she pulled out a chair for me. She was a short, plump woman, her rounded figure a result of the constant medication she needed after being poisoned with wolfsbane in the past.

The clear liquid warmed my throat down to my gut. "I gotta do this quickly so you don't bleed out completely," Razel growled softly and swiped her claws down my abdomen. I bit clean through the leather belt and gritted my teeth as she rummaged through my intestines to get to my uterus. A few more swipes and she placed one baby on my chest as she dug for the other. After she got the second one she yelled for Azun to bring her the staple gun. My eyes were losing focus but I remained aware of Azun yelping when he entered the bedroom.

Every small movement against the ruined sheets sent sparks shooting through her overstimulated body. She should have locked the door. She should have cast every protective ward she knew. Instead, she picked up her phone with trembling fingers and sent another message. This time to Valeria.
