“What is that?”
Before anyone could answer, a second, closer explosion rocked the hallway right outside the lounge door. The heavy door shuddered in its frame.
The fire alarm erupted—a piercing, relentless shriek. Instantly, red emergency lights began to strobe. A heartbeat later, the sprinkler system activated with a hiss. Icy water rained down from the ceiling, soaking everyone in seconds.
Pure chaos erupted.
Guards shouted into their radios, their voices panicked. Men jumped from their chairs, knocking over tables and glasses. Women screamed, scrambling for cover. Thick, black smoke began billowing under the lounge door, acrid and choking.
