And then a grunt of pure strain, coming from right outside. I moved without thinking. A blur of speed and I was at the window, looking down. Oh, moon goddess. Freya was hanging by her bloody fingertips from the shattered remains of the ledge. Zara was tied to her back with a bedsheet, screaming her head off, her little arms locked around her mother’s neck. Freya’s fingers were slipping, blood making her grip slick. They were seconds from falling. I didn’t think. I just moved.

I came here for Frey, and if anyone would try to stop me, I had no choice but to murder them. Frey's eyes snapped in place when she sensed my presence, and she rose to her feet with tears in her field of vision. She was indeed a fighter and had the monsters’ blood coated over her. I wanted to tie myself to her power, but there was a distinctive connection that I felt with this woman, even when I tried to kill her in the dream state. I discarded that idea before it formed thoughts in my head. In defense, trapping her in her mind was the only way her powers could manifest, and it worked out perfectly.

"We've been watching you, Freya. You have a special gift, one that could be very useful to our cause." I felt a shiver run down my spine. "What do you mean?" Sophia smiled. "You have the ability to sense supernatural energies. It's a rare gift, and one that could help us in our mission to protect the supernatural community." Nova's eyes widened. "That's amazing! Freya, you're like a superhero!" I laughed, feeling a sense of excitement and trepidation. "I don't know about that, but I'm willing to learn." Sophia nodded. "Good. We'll train you, teach you how to harness your power. And together, we'll make a difference."

The temptation of sharing a night with this untouchable Alpha was too strong. "Freya," I replied,not offering my last name or pack affiliation. Tonight,I was just Freya—no titles,no obligations. There on a corner is a bunch of what looked like teenagers gathered around a petite girl, her brown tall hair was a mess, she had bruises all over her face, she reminded me of that girl. They threw all her clothes to the ground with one guy holding an empty bag, and a blue scarf. While she stood there, glaring at them. What's wrong with her? Why isn't she fighting them?
