Ontario, 1986 The last full moon to be officially recorded was held by Andrew Petersen who was a good friend of James Blackwheel. The records were not as solid as Blackwheel wanted but they were good enough to vindicate him from any crimes laid upon him by the brotherhood. He knew he had committed crimes. He knew he was still committing crimes, and he knew it was going to be difficult for him to stop committing crimes but he couldn't stop because it was in his blood to see terror reign through the eyes of the people he conquered. It was in his eyes to use any human he felt could be manipulated. Sadly, it worked for most people.

************* Two days remain until the annual Full Moon Celebration, the single most important event in the kingdom. This festival occurs only once a year, when the moon reaches its fullest and brightest, bathing the lands in silver light. Every allied Alpha King, royal family, noble bloodline, and high-ranking wolf gathers at King Damien's pack to celebrate the Moon Goddess, renew alliances, discuss political matters, witness traditional ceremonies, and indulge in a grand feast before the sacred moonlit dance. Wind is moving through the branches. Then I heard something else. A distant howl. My heart jumped. Rogues. Tonight was the Full Mating Moon. Unmated wolves were more restless and dangerous on nights like this. Staying here wasn’t safe. I wiped my tears with my sleeve and stood up, ready to head back to the pack town. That was when I smelled it. The scent was sweet. Deep. Dangerous. Heat rushed through my body, starting at my spine and spreading everywhere. My breath caught.

"Picking me up for what? Lunch?" Mum’s face went slack. Her eyes widened, and then narrowed into slits of maternal fury. "Oh, for the love of..." she slammed the cookbook down. "Don't tell me he didn't tell you." "Tell me what?" I asked, a bad feeling curling in my gut. "Today is the full moon, Luna," Mum said, her voice tight. "The first full moon since the transition. Tonight is the Pack Gathering." She rubbed her temples, looking like she wanted to strangle someone. Probably Liam.

I tell him and he nods. “We have about a month til the next full moon. We’ll think of something.” He whispers, pulling me back to him. I shake my head. “It’s not the full moon we need to worry about.” I tell him and he looks at me confused. “It’s the red moon.” I whisper and he looks like he’s considering it. “Well, that’s good. There’s only one a year.” He tells me and I give him a small smile. He grimaces, “It’s not going to be better, is it?” He asks, and I shake my head.

I cleared my throat slightly, glancing at Miriam. “So… what’s the full moon like?” I asked. Her knife paused for just a second before continuing. “It’s a lovely evening,” she said. “The whole pack gathers. There’s music, food… a ball.” “A ball?” I repeated, frowning. Before Miriam could elaborate, Elena perked up instantly. “Yes!” she said, pushing herself off the counter and coming closer. “It’s huge. You have no idea. Everyone dresses up, the hall is decorated, there’s dancing—”

The moon hung heavy and crimson in the night sky, casting a blood-red glow over the sprawling grounds of the Blood Moon Packhouse. Wolves moved like shadows across the snow, laughter and music spilling from the great hall where the celebration roared. The rare Blood Full Moon was a night of power—a night when bonds were strengthened, instincts sharpened, and dominance reaffirmed.

Just this. Under the full moon, finally whole.

I will do the stupid Hide and Go Seek in the woods. ‘Thank you. And Sugar?’ “Yeah?’ ‘Whatever happens during the ritual, don’t run and don’t fight me.’ ‘Excuse me?’ He doesn’t answer. I pace my room. The once full blood moon is starting to become a waning gibbous. I always preferred a waxing gibbous. My chest is tight and it feels as if something is trying to claw its way out. I look away from the window and instead sit on my bed and stare at the ceiling. I barely slept because of the strange feeling.
