I rubbed her back and started humming the song we made up when we were kids. Whenever things got hard, and mom was sleeping in the basement again because dad got too angry, Red and I would sing, The Happy Bunny. The song was about a bunny who was caught in a trap for seven days, a bunny who thought she would die, but then she was rescued by a magical fairy. She was granted several wishes and allowed to be free and hop again. She was the happy bunny, and nothing could harm her anymore. It was slow; we made the lyrics and settled on what we liked for each line. We sang it for every bad thing. We sang it until we felt like we could be happy. Even when we weren’t.

I didn't miss how he and Nanay Emily shared a look, but I continued walking upstairs while humming the 'Happy song' of Pharrell Williams. Happiness is a motion of moments. It happens when you see someone you love smile at certain things that both of you used to know and now still remembers.
