It was Maya who moved first — a small thing, her hand finding her reading glasses and taking them off, setting them on her knee. Her eyes were on the middle distance, working through something, following it to its end.
"Hybrid power feeds the working," she said. "It slows the decay." She looked at the journal. "He's been running a breeding program for a hundred and fifty years trying to produce a stable hybrid." A pause. "Ivy exists."
