After three back-to-back nights of working until 3:00 am, I dropped dead. Honestly, I thought it was a relief and that my 23 years of corporate misery had finally come to a blissful end. But when I opened my eyes, I found myself transmigrated into a horror game. Right now, I was sitting in a classroom. A hanging ghost dangled from the blackboard, and its long tongue was dragging across the floor. A jumper ghost was doing a handstand on the desk with its eyeballs stretched six feet out of their sockets.

This wasn’t anywhere I knew. The room was… breathtaking. Walls of soft, warm grey. Tall windows covered by curtains of rich, dark silk. The bed I was in was huge and impossibly soft, the sheets cool and smooth. Everything spoke of quiet, immense wealth. It was serene. Beautiful. For one dizzy second, I thought, Am I dead? Is this heaven? Then, the memory crashed down on me like a wave of ice. The fall. The blood. The loss. Julian’s cold eyes.

I stared down at the blood on her body, at the blood on mine, and the man lying lifeless on the bed, soaked in his own blood. I killed him. With a shaky breath, I turned to find Mason’s mother standing in the hallway. A gun in her hands. Her face was filled with pure hatred for me. Then it got hot, and then I jerked up. . . *cough* I didn’t know how long I had been asleep, but the moment I opened my eyes, I felt it.

“It’s kind of cute, seeing the nightmare of this school acting like such a puppy.” He pouted. “How did that name even stick to me? I wasn’t even that bad.” “Please.” I rolled my eyes. “I only came to this school a semester ago—how would I know? But according to Eli, you broke a lot of hearts. Though, honestly, I thought otherwise when I first met you.” I giggled.

I scream that they may have tattooed me, but I’m not one of them and I don’t want to go on anymore stupid missions. It works better than I hoped. Carden doesn’t stop by for days on end leaving me with my nightmares. They become stronger with each passing day. I wake up breathless. I wake up crying. I wake up with my fists clenched to the point of having bloody nail marks dug into my palms. I wake up with a scream. And then I don’t wake up at all.

It was almost like he had it all planned out. Managing to hold back the hurt in my heart, I appended my signature and immediately handed it to him. The voice in my head kept reminding me that this was a wrong decision—just a means to hurt Boaz, too. Maybe. Maybe not. Different scenarios crossed my mind. Things my groom could be: a killer, a kidnapper, a trafficker. But despite my brain sending me warning signals, I still push it all away. All I wanted right now was just somewhere far away from the world.
