"Nice is the nice way to say boring." There he was again, attacking. "Guess we're fitting then. And no. Nice as in you can talk to him. He knows how to listen. And- and he's funny too." "I'm funny." I huffed. "Not really." his eyebrows shot up at my disagreement and I couldn't help a small laugh. "Sarcastic? Yes. But you're not funny, are you?" "If you mean I'm not a clown, then you're right. I'm not." he grumbled and now was my turn to roll my eyes at his grimacing expression.

"Shut the fuck up. You love my laugh." FYI it's not a donkey laugh. I like to think that I laugh like a normal person. "Yeah I fucking do."

He’s not joking. Not even a little.

“That’s ridiculous.” He didn’t laugh with me.

It made me laugh again. “Why are you laughing like that?” Serena asked, eyeing me suspiciously and I shrugged. “Nothing special, nothing serious. It’s just funny” I replied and Serena raised an eyebrow at me but I just merely shrugged again. “Something I thought was something else but suddenly made a lot of sense to me right now. I’m finding it funny because I made a big deal out of it and now it’s such a trivial matter” I added and Serena nodded.

“ Now that you know, it feels less lonely.” “ We have to try and get you treated…” He cackled and shut his lips, subduing a laugh. I stared at him puzzledly. There is nothing funny about what he's going through. “ You think it's funny that you are dying?” He shook his head. “ The fact that you think that a remedy will jump down from the sky for my own sake, meanwhile you haven't spoken about yours…son. That is funny.” “ You can't give up just yet.”

Did he care? “Yes,” she said. “But I’ll survive. Unless you plan to push me down some stairs for entertainment.” “I do not,” he said. “The stairs are steep enough on their own.” She stared at him. “Are you trying to be funny and tell jokes” in utter disbelief “I’m told I make them occasionally.” She decided then and there that this man was deeply unsettling not because he was cruel, but because he was dry and utterly unamusing. He gestured toward the door. “Walk with me.”
