Jade Gold closed the door after her, trying not to be daunted by the pounding in her chest. This man she claimed to detest so much turned out to have that impact on her. But why him? Sitting cross-legged on her wooden bed, she calmed herself and attempted to sift through the confusing emotions in her mind. She looked young, maybe even a year or two younger than I was, but when she’d looked up at me, her ancient grey eyes had me doubting my guess. She was beautiful, the type of beauty that takes a moment to take in. “This is my beta, Gideon,” Cassian motioned to the man with jetblack hair, “And my gamma, Katalier.” “Your… gamma?” I repeated, staring in utter surprise at the girl with ancient grey eyes. I turn back to look at him, and Sage's eyes drift to his figure almost immediately. My lips part to speak, but before I can, Alex talks. “I have a feeling you're intentionally attempting to sabotage my attempt to qualify for the Clan Convergence, Alpha Adrian.”

Their cries were drowned out by the snarling of guards as they were dragged away. Alex didn't even flinch. At the healer's temple, he sat still as stone, eyes like frost, watching the red moon pass outside the stained glass. Days later, his elite trackers returned. They shoved the missing wolves onto the obsidian tiles of the hall. Their knees hit the ground with a crack. Alex lit a cigar, the tip glowing like an ember in the dark. "Why did you run?" His voice was low, deadly calm. One of them trembled, head bowed. He said nothing.

Before I could judge, Joyce strode out with the bag of orders, her overly cheery voice causing me to revert to my timid nature as she shoved me aside. “Here you go, Alpha Ezekiel.” She beamed, sending her killer dimpled smile at him. “I am sorry for the wait, I was making extra for you all.” I froze. Even at the very beginning my mind had gone blank. Alpha? I stared at my mate, his eyes somehow finding mine once more as the Aura of his title washed through me. Now it clicked. No wonder.
