His touch was like ice against my burning skin, a welcome relief.
"You’re pushing too hard," he whispered, his eyes full of a fierce, protective love.
"We’re halfway across," I gasped, looking at the horizon. Through the thinning mist, I could see them—the golden spires of the Jade Isles. They weren't built on land; they were floating islands of white jade, held aloft by massive, glowing Sol-Cores.
"They know we're here," Jace said, landing beside us. He pointed toward the islands. A swarm of tiny, glowing dots was rising from the Jade capital. "Those aren't birds. Those are Sol-Flies—single-pilot interceptors. Thousands of them."
