I’m a bit torn on this one. If you go in expecting something like the peak of the genre, you might be let down. The premise is solid enough—a modern wind magician returning to a traditionalist family of fire users, with all that clan drama and supernatural fights. The action sequences involving Kazuma's wind arts are creative and have a nice flow to them, especially early on. But the series struggles with consistency. The pacing feels uneven, like it can't decide if it wants to be a serious action show or a light harem comedy, and it doesn't fully commit to either. The female lead, Ayano, has her moments but her tsundere act gets repetitive fast, and their dynamic never quite clicks into the compelling rivalry or partnership it seems to promise.
What saves it, I think, is the sheer fun of the magic system in practice. Seeing wind used for everything from precise blades to defensive barriers and high-speed movement is a genuine highlight. The villain plots are pretty standard fare, though. The biggest caveat, and it’s a heavy one, is that the story is famously incomplete because the author passed away. The anime wraps up its specific arc, but the larger narrative threads are left dangling forever. So if you need closure, that's a dealbreaker. For a quick, undemanding binge with some slick supernatural action scenes, it’s a decent enough time-passer, but it’s far from essential viewing.
