"We need to distract it!" Xal'dar stared at her, his eyes reflecting a mixture of fear and admiration. "Distract it? How?" A surge of chaotic energy crackled around Evie's staff. "With everything we've got!" she shouted, her voice filled with a newfound determination. "Liam, you weaken the Devourer forces. Xal'dar, stay close and be ready to defend ourselves if it gets through. I'll try to draw its attention." Before either of them could protest, Evie channeled all her remaining chaotic energy into her staff. A blinding blue light erupted, splitting the darkness. With a battle cry, she launched herself at the colossal beast, praying for a miracle.

It was almost nighttime when we arrived, and the fireplace in the living room was enough to make me feel at home. “Mamaí,” Evan pulled away from the lady, who can not be mistaken to be Evan’s mom, Laoise. Evan inherited her bright brown eyes. And I can’t help but feel edgy about the way she was regarding me. “This is my fiancée, Cali.” I’ve never felt more nervous in my entire life about someone’s impression of me, but I took a deep breath and smiled, offering my hand for a shake. “It’s nice to meet-”

I couldn't help but be drawn to this enigmatic person, and the intoxicating scent that seemed to surround them. A primal instinct roared to life within me, and a low, rumbling growl vibrated through my chest. "Mate!" my wolf snarled, the word echoing in my mind like a battle cry. As if sensing my wolf's claim, the stranger's head snapped around, their eyes locking onto mine with an unnerving intensity. A single word spilled from their lips, husky and raw: "Mate!" The moment our gazes met, reality seemed to warp and twist. My mind recoiled in horror as I took in the stranger's features—the sharp jawline, the piercing eyes, the chiseled physique. This couldn't be happening.

Evie stood by the bathroom door with a frown. Her mate was inside the female bathroom? But how? Or maybe, she had overreacted. Perhaps it wasn’t time yet. However, just as she turned to return, the gnawing in her heart returned, pulling her towards the door. It was like a force she couldn’t resist or ignore. Again, she could feel her wolf trying to communicate with her. Whatever she wanted to say, Evie wished to know.

“Oh, Sophie, that’s wonderful!” My father’s smile widened. “Who is it? When can we meet him?” With a deep breath, I shifted the phone further to show Evie sitting beside me. “This is Evie Rock. She’s my mate.” The joy on their faces faltered instantly, replaced by confusion and unease. My mother’s brows furrowed, and my father’s smile froze. “Evie is… a woman?” my mother asked, her tone cautious. “Yes,” I said firmly. “She’s my mate.”

During the next few stops, the children found something strange about Eva. She seemed to be in a good mood. There was a constant smile on her face, and she had a mirror in her hand. She seemed to like it a lot as she refused to pass it over to the bodyguards to carry. Mia observed her for a long time before turning to look at Max curiously. “What’s wrong with Mommy, Max?” Max looked at Eva upon hearing Mia’s question. He looked at the silly look on her face and later explained to Mia confidently, “Don’t worry, Mommy is fine. Haven’t you seen how women in love act like in television shows?”

"What’s your problem, Evangeline?" she murmurs to herself, going to Felippa’s trailer. "You’re crazy! Crazy!” "I agree." Felippa says, when Evie comes in. "But why are you crazy?” Evie drops the violin case on the floor and occupies the chair next to Felippa. She could hear the television coming from her friend’s parents' room. "Are your parents awake?" Felippa settled. "Can you call them for me?”

I asked. “Very well, thank you.” His face was still healing, so the bruising was yellow and green. “Ready to not see my bedroom walls anymore.” He smiled nicely at me before grabbing his water. “Evie, how are you?” I tried again to make a conversation. Evie jumped before looking over at me. “V-very nice, thank you.” Her fingers were twitching so much that Travis put his hand over hers to settle them down. “Excuse us, Evie is a little nervous and I keep getting flash backs.”

“Found her wandering near the border. Says she ‘knows Lucian.’” Amusement flickered in Marissa’s eyes. “Does she now?” I swallowed hard, hugging the puppy so tight it squirmed. “Please. I… I wasn’t trespassing. I didn’t mean to—” Marissa stepped closer, her perfume suffocating. She crouched slightly, eyeing me as though I were dirt on her shoe. “And who might you be?” “I…” The word caught in my throat. “My name’s Evie.” “Evie.” She rolled the syllables over her tongue like they were something foul. Then she straightened, turning to the growing crowd. “Funny. I don’t recall an Evie being part of this pack.”

Alex's POV The calls I make to Levi push through, but no one is answering. I was starting to get worried. I called again and Levi finally answered. I let out a sigh of relief as I brought the phone up to my ear. "Levi, I've been calling you all day," I said. "Sir Alex? This is Melanie, from Arville Hospital. Are you Mr. Levi's partner?" Melanie asked. My heart suddenly dropped from my chest. "Y-yes. I'm his boyfriend. May I ask why you're calling?" I replied.
