He moved in a blur of black tactical gear and crimson spray, his teeth bared, eyes glowing a flat, murderous red.
"Too late, Vane!" Solomon’s voice was a chilling, higher-pitched echo of Phineas’s own. He dragged Phineas by the collar of his silver-stitched tunic, the fabric bunching and tearing. Phineas’s heels kicked uselessly against the polished floor, his breath coming in jagged, wheezing hitches as the high-frequency hum from the dampeners continued to scramble his neural pathways.
"Let... go..." Phineas gasped, his hand clawing at the stone floor. He grabbed a fallen shard of crystal from a shattered chandelier, driving it back toward Solomon’s shin.
