I miss her and that it hurts, after all the time I passed, I still find myself missing her every minute of each hour, each hour in a day, every single day of each week, every week of the month, and every month of the year. There’s not a single moment in any day that I don’t find myself missing her. When I close my eyes, I see her there. But when I open them, I see nothing there, then I realize how much I miss her, and I hope the universe will bring us back together again, no matter how long it takes. I know that I love her because of how much I miss her. I wonder if she misses me as much as I miss her and I hope she still loves me and forgives me.

“It’s not that simple, honeybee.” “I love you. See? Simple. So Why?” I kneel down and wipe milk off her cheek. “Because I broke her heart. And when you break something special, you have to be gentle with the pieces.” Missy nods solemnly like she understands. And maybe she does. Later that afternoon, we sit outside on the porch with a stack of lined paper and crayons. Missy’s tongue pokes from the corner of her mouth as she concentrates hard. “Almost there,” I say, encouraging. “You’ve got the M down perfect.”

She didn’t even call her father like had planned. And now the day is Monday that makes him a busy man, she’s pretty sure he won’t go near his phone, her only way of speaking with him is contacting his secretary. Missy hates the man because he’s always flirting with her. She read through the messages and she’s glad her best friend; Thea never told anyone about what she told her. She exited the group, clicking on the private chat with Thea, then composed a message before sending. “I’m on my way to school bitch, there’s a whole damn lot to do and talk about.”

Before I could type back, another message popped in; >> "I can’t pretend that I don’t miss you because I see you in everything that I do. I can’t help that I miss you and the person that I was when I was with you. I’m not sure what is worse, missing you, or pretending that I don’t". << "I miss you so much that I am jealous of the people that get the chance to see you every day". >>"If I had a flower for every time I think about you and how much I miss you, then I would be walking forever in an endless garden."

He failed. The woman smiled weakly, her eyes barely open, but she knew that it was her son that was holding her hand. “I tried,” she said in a small voice. “I swear to you, Maddox. I tried…” She started to cough for a second or two before continuing, “I just can’t…I miss him so much. I miss him every time that I close my eyes. I miss your dad so much, Maddox.” Tears escaped her eyes freely, and she did not even have the strength to stop them if she could.

I moved back, taking retreating steps backward. "You're despicable! How dare you think I did this? You.. it's all your fault. If I hadn't argued with you on Mishap day, I would've been normal" She pointed at me, throwing the slippers at me. I jumped to the side, dodging it. "Mishap day? Mishap day is a myth." I frowned She scoffed, folding her arms. "Well, look at us" Her eyes cast down to her private part. "How.. how are you sure that it's mine? What if it's someone else's?" I pointed at it. She glared at me in disgust.

Folded, her name on it in Adrian's handwriting. She stood there for a moment before she opened it. 'I don't know how to say what I need to say out loud yet. So I'm writing it. I know I've been a different kind of absent than your father — I was here, physically, but I chose somewhere else every time it mattered. I think that might be worse. I think you might have been better off with a man who was simply gone than one who was present enough to make you hope and absent enough to keep breaking you. I'm sorry. Not because I need you to forgive me. Because you deserve someone who understands what they did.'

those were the only words I was able to make out. She stalled the cleaning and stared at the countertop, a wash rag in her head going in constant circles as she contemplated how to respond. "I still love you," she began, "Forgiving you isn't going to be easy, it's going ton be hard. My mum told me I should go out and find better, but she doesn't understand best for me is right in front of me. You've made a mistake, I'm giving you one chance to fix this."
