I recognised faces I’d only ever seen in magazines — politicians, celebrities, investors — all orbiting around Rand like he was their sun.
But he stayed beside me. His hand lingered at the small of my back as if silently reminding everyone that I wasn’t invisible.
“Elena, this is Arthur Caine,” he said, introducing me to an older man with a trimmed beard and too much confidence. “He runs the international board.”
Arthur shook my hand, his eyes sweeping over me in a way that made my skin prickle. “Ah, the artist,” he said. “I’ve seen your work in Rand’s collection. You must be quite… inspiring.”
