I leaned closer, anticipation buzzing in my veins— Only to freeze. Books. Shelves and shelves of them, stretching from top to bottom. Old ones. Ancient-looking, with worn spines and faded gold lettering. Dusty, but organized with meticulous care. My shoulders slumped. “Seriously?” I muttered. Why warn me off if this was all there was? Then I saw it. A small, folded piece of white paper resting innocently among the books. My heart kicked. I snatched it up and unfolded it— And rage hit me full-force.

Chapter 2 DAWN Exiting the building, we crossed the courtyard, only to be caught off guard by an eruption of squeals from a group of girls near a giant announcement board. “Oh my goddess, he’s coming back today!” “I swear I’m going to faint when I see him!” Kiara slowed down, grabbing my hand, she whispered, “Who are they talking about?” She pulled me forward before I could say a word,the girls were staring at a poster,I followed their gaze and immediately wished I hadn’t.

"One line. That's all." "And if she speaks to me?" Nigel asked. "Another line," Roman replied. "If she touches you, another line. If you feel your chest tighten or your thoughts scramble, another line." Nigel's shoulders sagged. "I don't have to speak?" he asked. "No," Roman said. "You just have to count." Nigel nodded slowly. "I can do that." "Good," Roman said. "Bring the book to me in a week." Nigel hesitated, then he straightened, squaring his shoulders with effort. "Thank you, Alpha."
