Fabian hit the floor like a dog face-planting in the dirt, groaning in pain. His lackey, Chester, grabbed a chair and swung it at me after seeing him getting hit. I dodged to the side, kicked him hard in the butt, and sent him crashing into the pile of wreaths. Fabian scrambled up from the ground with his fleshy face twisted in fury. “Are you tired of living, Mattie? Do you have any idea where the Jeffersons stand in Cirrus? Even having ten lives would not save you!” I curled my lips. There weren’t many people in this world who could take my life.

The husband, i paused at that, did i skip a page? my eyes travel to the previous page yeah, i was just reading on the capo i expected a continuation from there not another topic entirely. when my eyes travel to the bottom of the page it said page 4, on the next page its numbered page 18. what the hell? It seems some pages are missing, when I take a closer look at the middle of the book gasped, more like ripped out. "Some pages are missing" I said out loud.

Another labeled Response Variance. My fingers tighten around the page. I don’t need to understand every word to feel the weight of it. This wasn’t Livia’s. This was something she wasn’t supposed to keep. At the bottom of the page, faint but unmistakable, is a code I recognize instantly. H–47.

“He said you printed the wrong page, ma.” Patricia collected the paper and checked it. “Ask him what page is missing.” She instructed. Patricia looked at Bastian’s side. “What page is missing, sir?” She raised her voice without taking a step from Patricia's front. “Page three.” Bastian replied. Patricia turned back to Patricia. “Page three, ma.” Patricia opened the file again and printed the page. “That’s it.” Ailee picked the paper and took it to Bastian. “This is it, sir.”

The Hawthorne mansion buzzed with an energy that was both intoxicating and unsettling. In the living room, the four brothers sat together, a rare sight that spoke volumes of the gravity of the situation. Aiden leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees, while Liam lounged back, a smug grin tugging at his lips. Matthew, calm and composed as always, tapped his fingers rhythmically against the armrest of his chair, and Zander stood by the window, staring out into the night with a scowl.

I made my way back to my office, cheeks flushed, heart still pounding in my chest like it was trying to rewrite its rhythm entirely. Behind me, I heard the copier spit out the last page with a quiet ding. A perfect print. I looked down at it. Page 47. Exactly as it should be.

I walked down the aisle avoiding eye contact with anyone, did I just see people with their tongues inside each other's mouth, in the middle of a walkway? I arrived in front of room 74, there was a large metal in front and I raised it using it to knock. I heard a sound and then a girl opened it, she eyed me. “Who the f**k are you?” She asked, her eyes were ice grey and piercing. “Your new roommate?” I asked and she stared at me again. Are you being serious?” She asked and I nodded before she groaned. “Phoebe, number three is here” she groaned and opened the door wide so I could come in.

That evening, I was curled up in the sitting room with a book when the boys found me. “Room for four more?” Marcus asked, though they were already arranging themselves around me. “Always.” Darius settled behind me on the couch, pulling me back against his chest. Kael claimed the armrest beside me, his hand automatically finding my hair to play with. Marcus took the other end of the couch, my feet in his lap as his hands began massaging away the day’s tension. Zane positioned himself on the floor, leaning back against my legs.

I moved toward the nearest compartment. The panel opened immediately when I touched it. Inside rested a stack of thin folders. Real paper. Not digital storage. Paper. The sight felt strangely shocking. Everything inside Sublevel Zero revolved around technology. This did not. I removed the first folder carefully. The cover contained no name. Only a designation. SUBJECT 04. My pulse quickened. I opened it. Most pages had deteriorated. Others were partially erased. Yet enough remained to read. Psychological evaluations. Behavioral observations.
