Scanning his whole face, my eyes fell on his full lips which looks dry right now because it was cold outside. "Stop eye-fucking the poor guy." I heard Flo's voice in my ear that seem to snap me back into reality. I turned to see Flora looking down at me waiting for me to take the mug of coffee she extended towards me, god knows when. "I wasn't eye-fucking him." I protested emphasizing the word eye-fucking while maintaining to scrunch my nose in disgust at her way with the use of words. "Sure. And, I am Santa Claus." She says rolling her eyes as she sits down back into her seat.

Trays clattered against tables, students called out to one another across the room, and laughter echoed from every corner. By the window, Brian sat at their usual table, carefully peeling back the foil covering his lunchbox. Flora's eyes immediately lit up. "Ooh... your mum packed meatloaf today." Brian didn't even bother looking up. "No." "I haven't even asked." "You don't have to." She placed a hand dramatically over her chest. "Brian Miller, when did you become so stingy?" "The day I met you." Flora rolled her eyes. "Rude."

Proof that he was losing his mind. He picked up the book. His fingers trembled as he opened the first few pages. The words swam before his eyes….letters twisting, sentences breaking apart, meaning slipping through his grasp like water through his fingers. He blinked hard, trying to focus, but the words refused to stay still. They danced and blurred, mocking him. ‘I can't read. I can't even read anymore.’ Rolox leaned forward, his brow furrowed. "Can't you read them?" Louis shook his head slowly, shame burning in his chest. "I can't. The words…they won't…I can't…"

Why don’t you make up your mind! Standing up, knocking most of the thick globs from my cloak, I looked to Fluffy, whose hair was standing up on his neck. He backs up to cover me with his body. Looking over at him, there was no movement in the trees and the bushes were completely still. “It’s probably a chipmunk or something,” I whispered to calm myself. Surely that is all this was. My hand went to Fluffy’s back, feeling the stiffness of his body. It was anything but a chipmunk. The days had been too quiet. Something was going to break me out of my sweet solitude with Creed. It was inevitable.

“Read, Florence,” he said, grabbing my attention. I pushed those thoughts to the back of my mind and continued reading. “I would have my mouth at your throat, my lips and tongue lashing at your flesh. I know you would taste as sweet as you are, the flavor of your skin exploding on my tongue…”

Like my mom did toward the end. My chest hurts. I rub it. I’m not used to being empty-handed. If I don’t have a hammer or a wrench, I’ve got a ball or my hand grip. I don’t like all this fucking walking. And it’s too quiet. And there are too many fucking birds. I stretch my legs a bit and catch up to Flora. She’s panting harder. Her skin’s glistening, and her pink top is damp and sticking to her skin. I let her scent fill my nose and soothe my circling thoughts.
