Alex I knew the moment had arrived. The time to confront my enemy, Zane, was upon me. As I stood in the dimly lit corridor, the walls lined with the opulent yet oppressive decor of the castle, I took a deep breath. My hands moved with practiced precision, checking my rifle one last time. The cold metal felt reassuring under my fingers, a stark contrast to the turmoil churning inside me. Each click and snap as I inspected the weapon seemed to echo Amanda's name in my mind, a constant reminder of why I was here.

Out of sight, out of mind. My phone buzzes against the table. I barely glance at it at first. Unknown number. “Spam,” I mutter, unlocking it. The message loads. " It’s okay to reject me.You don’t have to go through this at all. " I freeze. “Kane,” I say under my breath. A whole month of nothing and this is what he sends? Just— Permission. My grip tightens around the phone. “It’s okay to reject me.” I let out a short, sharp laugh.

Not now. Never.

I scowled at her. "No! You're disgusting!" I spat back angrily. I should reject her. I don't want her to be my mate. I'm going to marry Liza anyway, for the union of our packs. This is for the pack's future. I should think first about what is better for the pack than for myself. Dang, but why does it hurt to reject her? The looks she gave me were full of pain and hatred. But I have to do this. "I, Alpha Azrael Shepherd, reject you, Alexandria Gregory as my mate," I said coldly, then turned my back towards the packhouse. I have said it and it's already done. I stopped dead in my tracks when she yelled at my back.

"Hey Terrorist, You’ve had more than enough time to mull over our previous message. But we see you’ve decided not to sway. Valiant. That’s good in a woman such as yourself but dangerous, especially in life or death situation like this. Since we’re much more broad minded than you guys will ever be, we have graced you with a second chance. You can still back out if you want. You’ll be out of danger. Otherwise...

When he thought I was his, but that I wasn't good enough. I don't know what came over me. Usually, I can keep my cool, but tonight, my sassy mouth takes over. I keep my eyes on his, a fake smile plastered on my face. "Did you expect me to say after being rejected by you?" I continue, unable to stop myself. "The day you rejected me, you gave up all rights to me. We have nothing to discuss."

“Stop it, Jordan.” “Come on. You’re unmated. I’m unmated. We’re both lonely. Two weeks passed like a blur, anxiety crippled Pamala. There were no other letters or threat. Whoever it was must have been bluffing, it was a silly trick. She didn't dwell too much on it. She was anxious about stepping outside, now the news of her Rejection had spread like wildfire she didn't want to people people throwing her looks of mockery or pity anywhere she went to, so she didn't go out at all. But it would be good to find a job and support her parents now that her hope for a mate was crushed. It was hard living, she felt like a shell. It hadn't gotten better but she was learning to cope with the pain.
