The door was solid metal and rusted and the building numbers had fallen off long ago. Jason went to the door and knocked, giving me a here we go look. The door creaked open slowly. I had never understood pack members distaste for rogues until the scent of this man hit my nostrils. He smelled of rancid milk that had been left out in the sun. I didn’t understand what it was until Jason pushed himself between us to guard me from the man. “Can I help you?” The man asked. Squaring up solidly with Jason.

I didn’t even know that was possible. “It’s not what you expected, is it?” Kael asked beside me, watching my face. “No,” I admitted. “I thought rogues were all violent and dangerous… that they lived alone.” “We are dangerous,” he said softly. “Every wolf here has been through things that would break most people. But danger doesn’t mean we can’t live together. We protect each other. That’s how we survive.” His words hit something deep inside me.

“Rouge... harder, please—” I panicked. I needed to get out. I took a shaky step backward, my hand reaching for the doorknob. Rouge stopped. He froze completely mid-thrust, his thick, rigid length still buried deep inside his woman. The woman looked confused. Slowly, terrifyingly, Rouge turned his head over his scarred shoulder. His eyes weren't silver. They weren't icy blue. They were a burning, lethal crimson. The moment his gaze locked onto mine, I felt that again, I am in danger...

As he stood, he smiled. “So Nathan's cool because he is just a vampire and you don't want to share your good liquor.”
