Rowan POV: The ambush doesn’t look like an ambush. That’s what almost gets me killed. Ruin asked. One of the men checked his radio. “The fighting is still ongoing.” “How many attackers?” “Unknown.” Ruin nodded sharply. “We move now.” The group hurried toward the waiting vehicles. Axel leaned slightly on one of the guards while walking. His strength had not fully returned after the hours he spent tied to that chair inside the warehouse. I climbed into the back seat of the first SUV while Ruin sat beside me. The engine started immediately, and the vehicle sped toward the safe house through the dark highway.

The night at the docks reeked of oil, salt, and rot. Cranes loomed like skeletons against the skyline, their rusted arms creaking in the wind. Containers stacked in uneven rows created shadows deep enough to swallow men whole. It was the kind of place Jaxon knew too well, perfect for a setup, perfect for blood,and he’d walked his men straight into it. The ambush hit faster that anticipated. He wants the story to be easy. The doors open again and Marcus enters with the quiet, steady gravity of a man who has never wasted a word in his life. I don’t stand. I don’t soften. I nod once. “Report,” I say. Marcus bows. “Basov led a patrol to the western ridge road at dawn.” A hush falls. “They encountered an ambush,” Marcus continues. “Twelve attackers.
