The news hit Mom hard, and her face turned deathly pale in an instant. Her fingers trembled against the doorknob. Her lips parted, but no words came out. Only after a long moment did she snap back to reality. Her eyes were bloodshot as she rasped hoarsely, “What did you just say? Who’s dead? Daisy? No, that’s impossible… That girl is tough. There’s no way she’d die!” The police fell silent for a moment, looking at her with sympathy.

Sally suddenly stopped in front of her room and turned around to face me. I smiled deeply as I stared at her. "I had so much fun today," she confessed. "Maybe we should do this more often," I said. Sally didn't say another word. She only smiled deeply and lowered her gaze to the floor. "What do you say?" I asked her. She shook her head and lifted her gaze to face me. Our eyes locked, and I felt cold shivers all over me. "Why would I deny such and opportunity," she asked and bit her lower lip.

He brushed his tongue against his silver-plated teeth. I grimaced on the inside, but kept my face cold and devoid of emotion. Trinity Gang member number three: code name, Fire. Their names were as ridiculous as their beat ass fucking ugly faces. To be honest, they don't actually have ogre faces, but they're also not particularly attractive. For my standards. I simply ignored what they said and instead gave them a wide, sweet smile. The smile I usually give my targets. It's what I called a sweet smile of death.

Everyone wanted to give Sally a hug and a kiss at first sight because of her sweet face and lovely appearance. She was anything but ugly or disgusting. She was always getting accolades as a child. Sally sobbed and clung closer to Charlene as she heard someone utter anything so upsetting for the first time. "Oh, Sally, you're not disgusting," Charlene soothed her, holding her in a reassuring embrace. You're sweet and gorgeous. You see that yourself, don't you?When Sally heard it, her mood improved. Jasmine had not spoken until she noticed Charlene still holding Sally and complimenting her, causing her eyes to fill up with tears.

She took a yellowed photograph from our mother's hand and returned to the table. She set it before Dante. Three little girls stood in the Rossi garden. Anna and I flanked either side. Between us stood a smaller girl, half a head shorter. Her hair hung in loose tangles, and her dress was plain. Her face was unforgettable. Even as a child, she was devastatingly beautiful. A cross-shaped scar marked her left ankle, distinct as a brand. Dante studied the photograph for a long moment. Something shifted in his expression. "This girl," he said slowly. "Those eyes. That bone structure."

I call too, moving away from Aunt May to get closer to her. She looks… different. Not the snappy, sharp-eyed Sally I knew—like she's broken. “Sally? Are you okay?” I have to ask, watching her as she climbs down the last step. Then she lifts her head, and that's when I notice the bruise on her face. I gasp. “Sally! Who did this to you!” I'm in front of her at once, my hands cupping her face as I check the bruise properly. It's purple and fresh, like it happened a day ago.

I tug her face upwards unexpectedly. I feast my eyes on her face. It looks absurd and scarred. One part of her face is ruined. She still has her eyes closed. Surely, I do not know her and she is not a member of the pack. I have never seen her before but it all feels as though this is not the first time I am meeting her.

Sally was surprised to see her, her eyes rolling from up then down to her body as she saw the patient uniform she was wearing. “Why were you shouting my name like that earlier, huh? Do you wanna die? What gave you the right to scream my name like that?!” Sally was now yelling back at Scarlet, walking closer to her. But unknown to Sally, going closer to Scarlet was the greatest mistake she made because as soon as she was close enough, Scarlet slapped her face dirtily. “What! Did you just slap?” Sally's eyes widened in shock as she held her cheek, it was stinging her badly.

Arlene stared between both of us, acting like she had just seen the tower of her life collapse in front of her. Sally's phone started to buzz and she placed it to her ear after patently answering it immediately. "Hello." She said into the phone. "...oh Roger, I'm so sorry. I'll be right there." Oh my gosh, did Sally just smile. "Really? Aw aw, that's so adorable." She smiled wider and like hell, kill me, she blushed. It seemed like this so-called… Roger really had an effect on her. She appeared to be more of a gloomy and strict person.

Those eyes reminded her of everything brown — the coffee. Crinkles usually formed underneath and beside his eyes whenever he cackled. Those crinkles got her thinking if he was older than he looked, because, asides the crinkles, his porcelain skin always shone with youthfulness and vibrance, the kind of vibrance that radiated from a healthy teenager. " ... want some berries?" Dr Jake offered her a bowl of red berries. Rosaleen gave a soft, close-tipped smile which the young man couldn't discern if it was an approval.
