"Thank you, Edward. For guiding me through this." I nodded, feeling a surge of pride swell within me. "We are far from finished. Now, let us put you to the test against the shade." The training ground took on a more ominous aura, the air crackling with an eerie energy. Bella stood at the center, gripping a practice sword with white-knuckled intensity. Her eyes were fixed on the shadowy figure before her, its form shifting like smoke in the wind. Though silent, the shade exuded a menacing presence, its faintly glowing eyes piercing the darkness.

“Feel it. The way they move. The way they wait.” She exhales, shaky but steadying. The shadows coil around her waist, tugging, pulling. She doesn’t resist this time. She leans into me. This is not the end!” The shadow’s words echoed as it started to be swallowed by the earth. “No, this is the end,” I uttered under my breath. The weight of everything was falling on my shoulders, almost knocking me down. Yet I stood up, wobbling in my legs, but I stood up, as I felt blood dripping from my hands.

KAREN’S POV The shadows shouldn’t have failed. I kept replaying that thought as I stood by the window, fingers digging into the sill until the wood cracked beneath my nails. Below me, the courtyard shimmered with moonlight, silver dust coating the stones like frost. My shadows—my loyal, obedient creations—had never failed before.
