Low and deep, the single word carried an unconcealable excitement, yearning, and lust. For a few seconds, absolute silence dominated the clearing. The hoots of the night owls, the whistle of the night breeze, and the constant titters of the night crickets all disappeared. For a brief moment, it was as if time itself had stopped. There was absolute silence. “Mate…it’s you, isn’t it?” The thrilled voice of the entranced female cautiously rang out again, the slight tremble in her tone conveying her nervousness. Thud…thud…

And a silent world was… terrifying. Her gaze shifted to the beeping machine, its rhythmic pulses a stark contrast to the eerie quietness that she was hearing. It was functioning normally, she thought, its electronic voice a constant presence in the room where she was in. Yet, even its familiar sound seemed distant, almost unreal. Where was the sound? She wondered, as panic was growing inside her a bit more and more. She was trapped in a world of absolute silence, a void that filled her with a growing sense of dread. A silent world was indeed truly terrifying and it was making her pulse rate increase.

No one knew when it could reopen. Benjamin approached, wanting to offer some words of comfort, but nothing came. He, who could speak circles around anyone in business, now stood helpless and mute in front of her. Before he could speak, Nissa lifted her phone. Her eyes were dull, expression gray. On the screen was a single sentence. "Did you do this?" Benjamin froze. She suspected him? He could not believe it. A wave of cold ran through his chest, his heart gripped by grief, anger, and emptiness.
