TRAPPED IN THE DARK CASTLE
Once the girls settled safely, I guided Amy to the upper corridor.
“You need to rest,” I said.
“I’m fine,” she insisted.
She wasn’t fine. Her pulse was unsteady. Her scent kept shifting—part human, part something ancient, something not yet awakened. Her aura pulsed in short bursts, uncontrolled and unpredictable.
“You’re not fine,” I said firmly.
Amy exhaled, frustrated. “We freed them, Oliver. That’s what matters.”
“Yes,” I replied. “But I will not lose you because you refuse to acknowledge what your body is doing.”
