Dirty Christmas
Up close, he smelled like pine and smoke, a comforting mix that made my stomach flutter unexpectedly.
"Over there, by the sorting table," I said, pointing.
Our fingers brushed as he handed me the manifest, and a spark jumped between us, warm against the drafty air. "Thanks. I'm Stevie, by the way. I run this chaos."
"Jacob," he said, smiling faintly, lines crinkling at his eyes.
"Heard about the drive. Figured I'd lend a hand. Beats sitting home alone with a tree that won't light right."
